Time Lady of L.A. #11: Pages 27-28

Page 27, 7 Panels- Outside Hotel Cairo, 1985 Cairo Egypt

Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels centered, from a side view, on our two heroines who finally discover the silver streak that was visible in the last panel of the previous page, which has revealed itself to be one of the hoverboards. In each of the panels, we see Amanda bending her knees in preparation to jump on to the board, which comes into view from right to left, in Panels 2 and 3. Giana, meanwhile, tries to help out her friend, engaging in the same action which leads to the same leap on to the board in Panel 3. As all of this is going on, you can hear Giana's ringtone "Next Stop Everywhere" playing without their noticing it.

Panel 4: Action shot showing our two heroines as they land in the middle of the board with the hard "THUD!" of knee and bone hitting metal. Amanda lets out a decently sized pained groan as she lands, which is only matched by a louder groan emanating from her friend laying next to her upon landing.

Panel 5-7: Panel 5 has the same setting/layout as the previous panel, which is also where the ringtone ends.. We see Amanda rising up to a seated position, turning her attention toward her friend as she does the same with each preceding panel, slowly getting her to the same seated position by Panel 7. In the background, you can see the city passing by with buildings on the right and the street on the left. We also see in Panel 7 the board stops moving and a shadow comes into view on the left side, catching the gaze of both of our heroines.

GIANA [through pained groans, to herself; Panel 5]: Note to self...install airbags on hoverboard. AMANDA [nodding, to Giana; Panel 5]: Agreed...I'm surprised my board didn't come back. GIANA [explanatory; Panel 5, Bubble 2]: Maybe it broke in the explosion. AMANDA [Panel 5, Bubble 2]: Maybe... AMANDA [Cont., hearing the "DING!" from Giana's jean pocket; Panel 6]: Looks like your cell didn't break. GIANA [glancing down to her pocket, casually; Panel 6]: I'll deal with that later. I'm more interested in who caused the explosion... GIANA [Cont., looking out in front; Panel 7]: And whether Mona or Free Tahrir had anything to do with the explosion. MONA [Off-Panel, to Giana; Panel 7]: We were not involved, Ms. Franklin...

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Mona standing a few steps in front of the hoverboard, moments after the action that we saw in the last panel of the previous page. She's wearing the same band t-shirt and torn blue jeans ensemble that she wore the last time we saw her. Feli9 is flying alongside her as she speaks. Her arms stacked on top of each other, pressing against the top of her abdomen with the energy sword in hand on the left side of the panel view.

MONA [Cont., to Giana]: Though we know who did.

Panel 2-3: In Panel 2, we move back to our human heroines as they start to slide off the edge of the board to the ground below. While Amanda touches down with her left foot without much incident, Giana moves off with a pained grimace as she moves. Her right foot still a few inches from the concrete walkway. In Panel 3, we move back to Mona who unwraps her arms from the previous position from Panel 1. A look of concern and curiosity on her face as she looks at the red stain on the lower right portion of Giana's shirt.

AMANDA [to Mona; Panel 2]: Really? Wha-- GIANA [screaming in pain, looking toward the sky; Panel 2]: AHH, PSYCHLOS!! MONA [raised eyebrow, to Giana and Amanda; Panel 3]: What the hell happened to her? AMANDA [Off-Panel; Panel 3]: Broken ribs, I think. The rest is...a looonngg story.

Panel 4: Close-up on Amanda a few moments later. With both of her feet back on the ground, she straightens her back up ever so slightly and lets go of her grip on her friend next to her. You can partially see through the gap between her and the off-panel Giana in the background part of the hoverboard as it remains in a stationary position behind our heroines.

AMANDA [Cont., to Mona]: Anyway, Mona...what the hell caused the blast? MONA [Off-Panel]: Two words---

Panel 5: Cut to a close-up of Mona's face a beat later. Her arms placed down to her side, and her eyes showing the same steely determination that is evident of her character at this point. You can hear off-panel the sound of sirens going off down the street in the direction of the Hotel Cairo.

MONA [Cont.]: Haddad Ifrit!
