Ghede: Guerrier Extraordinaire #1: Pages 9-10
Page 9, 7 Panels- Beach, Port-au-Prince Bay Panel 1: Back to Brigid, pulled out slightly in order to incorporate a full view of the goddess. She has manifested a scroll and rested it in the palm of her left hand. Her right hand, meanwhile, has slipped off the handle of her sword at the same time. BRIGID [Cont.]: Someone has filtered a still-living human into the In Between. Panel 2: Cut to Ghede whose arms have again now dropped down to her sides. She looks on with disbelief at the statement. The right eye slopes slightly upward, guided by her eyebrow (or the area where the eyebrow would appear). GHEDE [scoffs]: Impossible! No one's pulled that off in centuries. And the last of the loopholes closed just after that Z-Outbreak we squashed a few centuries back over in what's now Malaysia... Panel 3-4: Back to Brigid, unphased by her friend's explanation as the setting behind her changes slightly with each passing step. The Gaelic goddess looks out in the distance at some unseen point off-panel as she thinks. In Panel 4, a split second later, she turns her head back toward Ghede (or directly at the reader in terms of panel view) walking alongside her. BRIGID [interjecting; Panel 3]: Not unless you have a connection to the afterlife. BRIGID [Cont., Panel 4]: Which is partly why I wanted you for the job. Panel 5: Cut back to Ghede groaning at the insinuation, looking up to the sky. The night sky and the glow of the moon bouncing off of the cool blue waters of Port-au-Prince Bay can be seen somewhat in the background behind her. GHEDE: You know me and Legba have been on shite terms for damn near a millennia! You really think he's gonna willingly dish me any info about something as big as that? Panel 6: Brigid shakes her head confidently at the comment. As she continues walking, and the setting behind her continues changing, you can see the sparks of some type of energy off-panel crackle somewhat into view from the right side of the panel view. BRIGID: It's not the "distinguished" Papa that I'm thinking about right now, Ghed... Panel 7: Same layout as the previous panel. The setting behind her though has changed, from the calm of the Haitian coast to a noticeably gray sky-filled exterior. The sign of where we are now at this point is hard to determine except for those gray clouds and what appears to be a more mountainous setting. BRIGID [Cont.]: You heard about Izanagi? Page 10, 6 Panels- Tone River, outside Tokyo, Japan: Mid-Morning Panel 1: Cut to a profile shot of Brigid and Ghede standing on the banks of the Tone River (Brigid on the left, and Ghede to the right). The glow of early morning sun hitting the river and its nearby banks as well as the roads and trees in the background behind them. You can also see a few cars passing behind them on the highway as well as the portal that got them here starting to close in on itself. GHEDE [looking out at the unseen skyline]: Japanese god who chopped up his son Kagu-Tsuchi in 8 pieces and chucked him into a volcano because he thought he killed his wife. Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Ghede starts to make her way toward the left side of the panel view in the direction of the city. Brigid looks on behind her for a moment, just on the verge of joining her in the same direction. GHEDE [Cont., with a growl]: Truly repugnant little fucker! BRIGID [Off-Panel]: Indeed... Panel 3: Close-up on Brigid as she closes in on the position of her friend a couple of steps ahead of her. For the first time, in the background, we see the outer edge of the portal that brought them to this point. The picture of the slice of land in Port-au-Prince showing through somewhat.
BRIGID: A quality that has carried on from father-to-son.
Panel 4: Side shot of the two ladies as they traverse the ground forward toward the Tokyo skyline. Ghede still a handful of steps ahead of her red headed compatriot. Around the left side of the panel view, you can see a big rig coming at them at a fast speed, unbeknownst to Ghede.
BRIGID [Cont.]: He kept out of sight till last month when he re-appeared on the outskirts of Tokyo.
GHEDE [curious]: The hells would he be doing in Tokyo? BRIGID: Vengeance, revenge for his past. Something in that fam--
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Brigid stops walking just at the edge of the road, stretching her arm out to the side. Ghede, meanwhile, is still walking without view of the big rig, which has now come within a few feet of making contact with the voodoo goddess.
SOUND EFFECT: HONK!!
Panel 6: Ghede turns back to see the front of the imposing 18-wheeled truck. Just as it’s about to make contact with her, however, it disappears in front of her eyes as if it had been transported somehow.
