Ghede: Guerrier Extraordinaire #1: Pages 17-18
Page 17, 6 Panels- Air Tokyo Terminal, Touissant Louverture International Airport Panel 1: Back to Chloé/Ghede as this goes on. The line behind her starting to become a little perturbed by the length of time this is taking. She places her right hand across her body toward her black purse, touching the top of it with her fingertips. GHEDE [to the Flight Attendant, confused/distrustful; translated from Haitian Creole]: May I ask why? Panel 2: Back to the Flight Attendant with her hands placed on top of the ticket, laying on top of the counter. She is annoyed by the length it is taking for something that, in her mind, is considerably simple. Though she still maintains the cordial air of someone in the Customer Service industry in order to keep things cordial. FLIGHT ATTENDANT [translated from Dominican]: Just a security check is all. Panel 3-4: Chloé/Ghede pauses for a brief moment, looking at the Attendant suspiciously for a moment. Then, in Panel 4, the concealed Voodoo specter reaches over toward her purse cautiously. The tension growing between the two of them from panel to panel. All the while, the man behind them becomes steadily more annoyed by the wait to the point he's ready to harshly speak out. GHEDE [thought bubble, Panel 4]: The mother tongue...shit! Forgot to make the shift... Panel 5: Side shot taking in the Flight Attendant and Chloé/Ghede a few moments later. She has pulled out the ID of Chloé Maissel and extended it out toward the waiting young woman's hand. You can see Chloé/Ghede glancing back slightly in the direction of the man standing behind her who has barged on to the margins of the right side of the panel view. There's a dark glow emanating from the right side of the possessed human at the same moment we see the glare. GHEDE [Cont., thought bubble]: Stupid, stupid...Bush league BS! ROTUND MAN [translated from Dominican]: Jesus, hurry it along will you?! Panel 6: A second later, as the Attendant takes the ID card from the woman whom she believes in Chloé, the rotund man slips and falls backwards a couple of feet. It all looks to the other people standing around him as if he had just lost his balance and tripped over himself. Though the dark specter that can be seen slipping back into the human host of Chloé Maissel paints a different picture. Page 18, 7 Panels- Air Tokyo Terminal, Touissant Louverture International Airport Panel 1-2: Cut to the Flight Attendant a moment later, looking over the ID card carefully as well as the plane ticket. She hems and haws to herself for a brief period of time. Then, in Panel 2, she looks back up toward Chloé/Ghede flashing a courteous smile honed by many months and years of service. FLIGHT ATTENDANT [translated from Dominican, Panel 2]: Alright, everything seems to be in very good order, Ms. Maissel. Panel 3: Action shot of the Attendant a couple of seconds later, delivering both documents back to Chloé/Ghede. The ID is stacked on top of the plane ticket. Her cordialty and pleasant demeanor is back in full force at this point, as if the thoughts of racism and suspicion weren't a short time ago readily evident on her face. FLIGHT ATTENDANT [Cont.]: I gotta say, for a Dominican, your Creole is very impressive. GHEDE [Off-Panel, translated from Dominican]: Thank you... Panel 4: Cut to Chloé/Ghede with both of the aforemenitoned documents in hand. She extends the same type of courtesy that the worker showed earlier, albeit not as slathered on or noticeable. You can see her hand just sliding the ID and ticket back in the direction of her purse as she speaks. GHEDE [Cont.]: I had a brilliant teacher from Jacmel when I was a kid--Sweet woman! Panel 5: Action shot, showcasing the Attendant on the right side and the back of Chloé/Ghede in the left side as she walks past. In the background, you can see the large window showing the starless night as well as the airport. You can also see the benches with other passengers seated, ready to board, as well as the walkway leading to the plane which has yet to arrive at this point. FLIGHT ATTENDANT [to Chloé/Ghede]: Have a great flight! GHEDE [nodding in her general direction]: Thanks... Panel 6-7: A two-part set of panels centered around Chloé/Ghede as she walks to her seat. In Panel 6, she keeps the same kind of faux pleasantries that was on display for the past couple of panels as the line and the check-in desk fades in the background. In Panel 7, however, her deeply-contained annoyance at the whole ordeal finally bubbles up in the form of a snarl. The background in the latter changing toward what appears to be the Arrivals Lobby with restaurants and shops flanking both sides. GHEDE [Panel 6 thought bubble, translated from Haitian Creole]: This is why I prefer Bohlt travel... GHEDE [Panel 7 thought bubble]: Less stupid humans to deal with!
