Time Lady of L.A. #12: Pages 21-22
Page 21, 6 Panels- Bir Gifgaga Airfield Conference Room,1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels focused on the General within a handful of seconds. His face exhibiting the same level of frustration and annoyance through Panels 1 and 2 as he steps into the room. By Panel 3 though, as the edges change to signify the two opposite walls of the room he's about to step into, the General's demeanor quickly changes to one of openness and welcoming looking which hides the still seething anger. E.O.M. GENERAL [Cont., to the Lieutenant translated from Egyptian Arabic; Panel 1]: Walking around as if he was the Shah of Iran. E.O.M. GENERAL [Cont.; Panel 2]: If it wasn't for his technical acumen or his connections to Washington, he'd be just another white boy playing James Bond to compensate for his-- E.O.M. GENERAL [faux energized; to W, Panel 3]: W! Panel 4: Cut to an action shot, taken from the ceiling looking down, of the General and W walking up to one another in order to give each other a friendly hug. The other soldiers in the room still gathering intelligence and looking over maps. Their hug covers the less than friendly attitudes each of them share with each other. As the General hinted at, W is one of the few white men in the room. He looks like someone better suited for a boardroom with his slicked back salt and pepper colored hair, blue eyes and crisp navy blue suit and tie. E.O.M. GENERAL [with a smile, to W; translated in English]: Hello, old man! W [with an equally fake smile]: General Martes! Panel 5: Close-up on the two men's faces just as they lock arms around each other in a solid hug. The back of the General's uniform can be seen around the left side of the panel view, while W's dark blue back takes up the majority of the right side of the panel view. You can still see their faces though (General Martes to the right, W to the left) as they speak. GENERAL MARTES [to W, with a degree of suspicion]: I was under the assumption the Americans were the "silent partner" when it came to E.o.M. business. W [to the General, diplomatic]: Relax, General! This isn't a contested visit... Panel 6: Cut to W a few moments later after the two of them have detached from the hug from the previous panel. His smile fades toward one of a stern business-like baseline, denoting a shift to what brought her there. You can see some of the soldiers in the background still working on issues that were partially visible in Panel 4. W [Cont.]: I'm just here to check on Project Lion...make sure everything is running smoothly. Page 22, 5 Panels- Bir Gifgaga Airfield Conference Room, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1: Back to the General a few moments later with the paper that his Lieutenant, who has already moved on to talking with another soldier in the background, gave him a few pages earlier. As was the case with W in the previous page, we see Mr. Martes' smile fade toward a business-like baseline as he speaks, following as W walks away. The action of the room around him continuing to be busy at the same moment as we saw in the last panel of the previous page. GENERAL MARTES [nodding, to W]: Everything is fine with Project Lion, Mr. W. We're still slated to unveil it in a month's time. Panel 2: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout changes slightly to follow the General as we see him start to make his way toward W. The paper that he had pressed close to the right side of his chest has moved to the middle, flapping slightly on its top edge as he's moving. As before, the background action is similar and fast moving as we saw in the first panel. GENERAL MARTES [Cont.]: We've gathered a list of potential targets for you to look over. Panel 3-4: A two-part set of panels in the same setting as the previous panel. The layout shifts to focus solely on W in the foreground, reaching back to grab the extended document from the General (seen behind him in Panel 3). In Panel 4, we see the General shift slightly to the right alongside the American as he examines the document. GENERAL MARTES [Cont., to W; Panel 3]: Each one was optimized to minimize civilian casualties and project power in the entire region. Which, unless I'm completely mistaken, should be very good for business. W [nods casually; Panel 4]: Yes yes...where's M? Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A minute later, W stops at the far end of the table. His eyes still focused intently on the bottom of the document with his periphery over in the direction of the General who has also stopped alongside the gentleman. His arms behind his back, waiting for whatever he's about to say next. GENERAL MARTES [Bubble 1]: M? W [curious]: The security chief. I was hoping we could discuss the latest in regards to her "spy" inside Free Tahrir. GENERAL MARTES [Bubble 2]: Umm, well...he normally doesn't step foot on military bases.
