Time Lady of L.A. #13: Pages 1-2
Page 1, 5 Panels- Secret Free Tahrir Safe House, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1: We open things with the same image that we saw in the last panel of the previous issue with the same setting and layout as well. Namely, of Giana reacting with a degree of surprise and fear at what she had heard. CAPTION: Secret Free Tahrir Safe House, The Present that is...the Past- 4 Days till Rally Day DEELIAH MCFLY [Cont., Off-Panel]: Then again, I said the same thing about the cronut and the rainbow bagel, soooo... GIANA: Explosion? Panel 2-3: We pull back a couple of beats later. Amanda has formally gotten Giana back up to her feet. You can see her slowly getting the weight underneath her, getting a little loose with her footing as she's seen moving in Panel 3. As for Amanda, in both panels, we see her slowly moving alongside her friend in case of any potential setback. The doorway changes slightly, fading from view to the left as they walk. GIANA [Cont., to Amanda; Panel 2]: Was it in the middle of a park or...town square or something? AMANDA [confused, to Giana; Panel 2]: No idea. I just heard a couple of big booms and saw the big cloud of smoke outside through the windows. AMANDA [Cont., looking out toward the hallway; Panel 3]: Maybe we can get someone at Free Tahrir to help tell us what happened. GIANA [realization, looking down at her feet; Panel 3]: That's it... AMANDA [Panel 3, Bubble 2]: What is? Panel 4: Cut to a slight close-up of Giana a few moments later. She's stopped walking at this point. Her head is back up from the ground toward eye level, looking over in Amanda's off-panel direction. You can see that they are filled with the spark of an idea- one that also has a slight degree of fear and unease hidden underneath it. GIANA [Cont.]: My cell phone, Mandy! I need my cell! Panel 5: Back to Amanda a split-second later, standing a couple of feet away from her friend. She shoots Giana a disconcerting, highly disbelieving glare at the statement. You can see a little bit of the rest of the hallway in the background as well as the edges of some of the windows from the right. AMANDA [to Giana]: Um, no offense G. But--I'm pretty sure you're not gonna be able to get much of a signal right now. GIANA [mild chuckle, Off-Panel]: I know that... Page 2, 6 Panels- Secret Free Tahrir Safe House, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1-2: Back to Giana in mid-stride, making her way back down the hallway to her room. A look of determination in her eyes and a decided energy with each step in her stride. You can see Amanda trailing a couple of steps behind her at this moment. In Panel 2, a minute later, we see Giana a few moments later as she makes the turn to her door, grabbing the doorhandle as she looks back to the encroaching friend. GIANA [Cont., glancing back at Amanda; Panel 1]: I've just--there's something nagging at me big time. AMANDA [to Giana, concerned; Panel 1]: That tinge in your voice screams, "Horrible omen ahead!" AMANDA [Cont.; Panel 2]: Then again, that may just be my inner pessimist again. GIANA [chuckling; Panel 2]: It's not that bad... Panel 3: Slight close-up from the side on Ms. Franklin a second later. She's seen turning the doorknob down in the same direction to open it. There's a look of unease and concern in her eyes as this all takes place. You can also see behind Giana the shadow of Amanda as she follows behind her. GIANA [Cont., thinking to herself]: Please let it not be that bad! Panel 4-6: Cut to a shot from the doorway in Panel 4 just as Giana has fully opened the door and stepped into the doorway. Amanda is standing behind her and to the left, looking on with the same level of concern that she's had through the bulk of the page. In Panel 5, the layout widens and shifts to the ceiling looking down as Giana quickly walks inside the sparsely furnished room. Amanda following in stride in the same position in the doorway as her friend. We see her making a beeline for the backpack located on the right side of the bed, which we notice by the time we reach Panel 6. AMANDA [to Giana, confused and concerned; Panel 4]: What the hell's on your phone that would-- GIANA [interjecting excitedly; Panel 4]: The photos! GIANA [Cont., in mid-stride; Panel 5]: Particularly ones involving my mom. AMANDA [confused, walking slowly into the room; Panel 6]: What the hell does your mom have to do with...?
