Time Lady of L.A. #13: Pages 3-4

Page 3, 7 Panels- Secret Free Tahrir Safe House, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1-3: Cut to a close-up shot of Giana a minute later. She has found the phone in Panel 1, letting out a relieved sigh upon doing it. In Panels 2 and 3, we see her frantically looking through the phone's screen. All the while, in the background of each panel over Giana's left shoulder, Amanda slowly approaches her friend with a high degree of fear and worry over her friend's erratic behavior. The action in those two panels is contained within a couple of minutes. AMANDA [to Giana, Panel 1]: G--G, what's going on?!...Talk to me! AMANDA [Cont., Panel 2]: This isn't the time to lose your mind, even if (after everything we've been through) it'd be totally justified... GIANA [relieved, to herself; Panel 3]: Good, good...she's still there! AMANDA [starts to piece two and two together; Panel 3]: "Still there?" Wait a minute... Panel 4: We move to a shot of Amanda's face a moment later, looking over in her friend's direction as she moves in front of her in the room. There's a look of sadness that has overtaken the fear and concern that was on her face for the course of this page as well as the last one. There's also a degree of silent understanding about her friend's behavior since waking up. AMANDA [to Giana]: You believe Mona's your mom now, don't you? GIANA [Off-Panel, to Amanda with a sigh]: For the first time since we got here...yeah, I do. Panel 5: Cut to Giana a second later as she makes her way toward a corner of the small room. Her steps slowed massively by weariness. The small television near the center of the room can be seen partially around the left side of the panel view. For the most part though, the bland beige of the room's walls stand out in the background. GIANA [Cont.]: I have no idea exactly why I think that now. Just...maybe it had to do with something I heard it while I was knocked out. Panel 6: Back to Amanda a second later. She takes a single step in the direction of her friend with a high degree of curiosity in her eyes and body language. The other section of the small room (the rest of the TV, part of the bed, the still semi-opened front door, and the closet) can be seen in the background behind her. AMANDA [to Giana]: What did you hear? Panel 7: Back to Giana at the same moment. She's stopped moving up and down in the room as she had done in Panel 5. She looks over behind her right shoulder in the direction of Amanda coming toward her. GIANA [weary, but with a veneer of strength to make sure she's heard]: It was, "Mona...MONA!" Page 4, 6 Panels- Secret Free Tahrir Safehouse, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1: We move back to Amanda in a similar setting and layout that we saw in the second to last panel of the previous page. She looks back at her friend with a degree of disbelief, though there's also a glint of curiosity in her eyes and body language. In the background, you can see a cross-section of the same beige wallpaper and fixturing in the room behind Amanda. AMANDA [to Giana, Bubble 1]: Maybe it was just a random memory, something you heard your dad say when you were a kid... GIANA [interjecting Off-Panel; Bubble 1]: No, no... AMANDA [Cont., Bubble 2]: I mean, it was your subconscious. It's entirely possible-- GIANA [interjecting Off-Panel; Bubble 2]: That wasn't it. Panel 2: Cut back to Giana. She's seen in the same position in the room that we saw her in the last panel of the previous page. Her head tilted to the right after a period of head-shaking that took place off-panel in the previous page. The background around her is also the same that we saw behind her in the last panel of the previous page. GIANA [Cont., looking down to the ground]: I could clearly tell who said it.. Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel, along with the same background. A couple of seconds have elapsed, and we see Giana's head has stopped moving. It tilts up slightly back in the direction of her friend. There's a tinge of strong conviction in her voice that was also evident in the previous panel. GIANA [Cont., to Amanda]: It was me!

Panel 4-5: Back to Amanda in the same setting and background that we saw her in in the page's first panel. She spends a minute trying to wrap her head around the sheer weirdness of the situation right now. In Panel 5, the layout pulls back to take in the whole of the room as she walks over to her friend (in the right of the panel view) who is clearly on the edge of collapsing into a sleepy ball. AMANDA [stunned; Panel 4]: It wa...okay, that settles it! AMANDA [Cont., to Giana; Panel 5, Bubble 1]: You need sleep. Preferably longer than the combined cuts of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit trilogies. GIANA [weak chuckle, to Amanda; Panel 5]: I'm fine, Mandy! Besides...I'm needed. To get the necessary pieces together with-- AMANDA [Panel 5, Bubble 2]: They'll be fine... Panel 6: Close-up on the two ladies in a warm, hugging embrace. Giana's head is dropped on Amanda's shoulder like a sack of potatoes. Her closed eyes upstage toward the reader in terms of the panel view. As for Amanda, you can see the side of her ear resting gently on Ms. Franklin's dark hair looking over to the right panel area. AMANDA [Cont.]: We're talking about revolutionary badasses, G! Trust me...
