Time Lady of L.A. #13: Pages 13-14

Page 13, 5 Panels- Secret Free Tahrir Safehouse, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1: We move to an action shot of Giana seconds later, leaping off the edge of the bed to her feet. The mattress and the bed as a whole can be seen in the background, bouncing up and making a squeak sound as a result of Ms. Franklin's movement. There's an energized spark to her movement through the course of this panel as the audio, in Egyptian Arabic, comes out of the tablet's speakers. GIANA [looking at the tablet intently and typing]: All I need to do is filter it through the translation algorithms and...doo-doo-doo.... Panel 2: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout shifts slightly toward the side of the bed. Giana is five steps from the bed, finishing typing after a period of work. You can see Amanda over her right shoulder starting to walk toward her at the same moment. Also, you can see the front door to the bedroom off in the distance behind Amanda. GIANA [Cont., with an accomplished grunt]: Got it! FREE TAHRIR REBEL #1 [from the Doc Brown speaker, Bubble 1]: ...intelligence and weapon caches were unaffected by the blasts. FREE TAHRIR REBEL #2 [from the Doc Brown speaker, Bubble 2]: Central, is there any confirmation that it was the Haddad Ifrit that caused the blasts?... Panel 3: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout widens slightly as we see Amanda appear properly in view to the right of Giana, who is still listening intently to the conversation coming out of the Doc Brown as it continues onward. As we saw briefly in her face in the previous panel, you can see a look of curiosity on her face. AMANDA [remarking]: I thought the Ifrit wasn't gonna pop up publicly for another couple of days. GIANA [to Amanda, glancing from her periphery]: Unless someone's been feeding them intelligence... Panel 4-5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. As the conversation continues onward, fading into its own sense of coordination and planning for the future, we see Giana look up slightly from the screen while still addressing the intently listening Amanda. In the next panel, a few seconds later, we hear the door slam open, pulling the attention of our two heroines to the left. GIANA [Cont., to Amanda; Panel 4]: Just enough to get them to speed up their proverbial deadlines. AMANDA [putting two and two together, to Giana; Panel 4]: You're talking about a mole-- GIANA [Panel 4, Bubble 2]: Or a spy...pretty much the same thing! SOUND EFFECT [Off-Panel; Panel 5]: SLAM! Page 14, 6 Panels- Secret Free Tahrir Safehouse, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1: We move to the doorway a couple of seconds. Standing in full view of the reader in the center of the panel view, we see a bruised Mona looking inside. Her clothes are noticeably dirty and scuffed up as a result of her travels. A look that also translates to her face and her arms, which have spots of black ash on them. MONA [to Amanda and Giana, snarkily]: Ladies..nice to see you're still in one piece! Panel 2: Cut to a shot of our two human heroines from the future after discovering Mona's visage in the doorway. They quickly stroll over to the area to reunite properly, with Giana taking a slight lead around the left side of the panel view and Amanda trailing behind slightly. You can partially see the front half of the bed in the background behind Giana. GIANA [retort with a degree of care and relief, to Mona]: I second that... AMANDA [interjecting in the same vein as Giana's thought, to Mona]: Though not for lack of trying, judging by the clothes. Panel 3: We shift the layout of the scene slightlyas the three heroines of the past and future congregate in the middle area between the door and the bed. Mona is standing around the right side of the panel view, lowering her energy blade down to her side as she speaks. Giana and Amanda can be seen standing on the opposite side of the panel view, with Giana in the foreground and Amanda closer to the background area of the shot. AMANDA [Cont., leaning toward Mona with concern]: What the hell happened to you? MONA [sighs]: I was out gathering some intelligence from a source inside the Eyes of Mubarrak when the blasts took place. Panel 4: Close-up on Mona's face a second later. At this point, the weariness of what she's gone through starts to show up in her eyes and in the story she weaves. In the background, you can see a little section of the room's ceiling and wall as well as a part of the still opened doorway. MONA [Cont.]: I was able to get out along with some other people inside before it collapsed. My source though... Panel 5-6: A two-part set of panels that both connect to the same setting and layout that we saw in the page's first panel. Giana is seen exclusively in Panel 5, displaying a degree of sympathy to the story and thinking about what her and Amanda had talked about previously. Amanda, meanwhile, is seen exclusively in Panel 6. Her brow scrunching, thinking about the same thing as her friend. You can also see, from Panel 5 to 6, Giana's shoulder bump into her friend's side upon hearing the word "spy." GIANA [to Mona; Panel 5]: What was their name... AMANDA [to Mona, following along the same theme; Panel 6]: The spy we mean? SOUND BUBBLE [over Amanda; Panel 6]: OOOMPHH! AMANDA [corrective; Panel 6, Bubble 2]: ...I meant source!
