Time Lady of L.A. #14: Pages 5-6
Page 5, 7 Panels- Garden City District, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels centered on Giana and Mona moments later. In Panel 1, we see our heroines from the future looking at each other for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to enunciate what they've learned. Ms. Franklin is the first in Panel 2 to break away and properly address the off-panel Mona. Amanda follows not too far behind, turning her body 90 degrees toward the young girl. GIANA [to Mona, placing the photo and the Doc under her arm; Panel 2]: Well, we think this W guy... AMANDA [on top of Giana's thought, to Mona; Panel 2]: ...is from our time. Panel 3-5: A three-part set of panels centered primarily around Mona as she tries to piece together what the hell just happened. Her face growing increasingly red with each passing second and panel. By Panel 5, you can see her right hand reaching over toward the handle of her holstered energy sword on the verge of unsheathing it. MONA [holding in the anger, to Giana and Amanda; Panel 3]: So, everything I've been through, this nation has been through... MONA [Cont.; Panel 4]: The death, the misery, the sheer fucking destruction I've witnessed... MONA [Cont., disbelief; Panel 5]: It was all for what, fun...profit?! A sick plan from your government to kill off brown people before they become a problem in the future?!! Panel 6: Cut back to Amanda, particularly her face and shoulder area. Her body is moving toward the off-panel Mona in a way to comfort what she views as hysterical (and well-earned) anger, which is visible in what we can see of her overall body language. AMANDA [comforting; to Mona]: It has nothing to do with you or your country. The people involved...they're basically evil fucks who would see the world burn if it meant a few million more in their bank accounts. MONA [seething]: Tell me something I don't know! Panel 7: Back to Giana a few steps back from Amanda. The layout of the panel creating the same framing with her face that we saw of Ms. Clarke in the previous panel. She also displays the same type of concern and care in her voice and body language that her friend had as she just starts to walk toward Ms. Nasser. GIANA [to Mona]: Mona, I know it's painful. I know you want to kill him and leave his body to the wolves. But-- MONA [interjecting vengefully; Off-Panel]: Damn right I do... GIANA [Bubble 2]: But I think it's best if you stay here and let us fight this W guy in the past. MONA [scoffs, Bubble 2]: I fucking disagree... Page 6, 6 Panels- Garden City District, 1985 Cairo Egypt Panel 1: Cut to a full-body shot of Mona, striking a semi-heroic pose. Her sword firmly gripped with both hands wrapped around the handle, unsheathed and glowing in all its magnificence. The nearby buildings in the background shine with the glow of the new morning sun as she stands. MONA [Cont., heroically badass; to Giana and Amanda]: I'm coming with you two to 1981, whether you think it's wise or not! It's what Ra'hel would have wanted. Panel 2: We move to a shot of Giana and Amanda standing in front of Ms. Nasser. At this point, the two ladies from the future are standing next to each other and listening to the proclamation. Amanda remains calm and mentally at peace in regards to the announcement, though still trying to contemplate it. Giana, however, is a mixture of surprised and angered by the announcement. Her body holding back from exploding outward. GIANA [struggling to find the words]: Wait, wait a damn minute, Mona! Can't we just-- Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Just a split second after the action seen in Panel 2, we see Ms. Franklin start to charge forward, with the Doc Brown and the photo still under her arm, at Mona in an attempt to intervene in the situation. Amanda sticks her arm out and stops her, pushing her back as she presses against her stomach. GIANA [to Amanda, angered]: What the hell, Mandy?! AMANDA [to Mona, apologetically]: Excuse us one second... Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels centered, a minute later, in the middle of the huddle Giana and Amanda are standing in. Giana is seen around the left side of the panel view, with her friend Ms. Clarke taking up the majority of the right side of the panel view. They're whispering to one another for both panels as Feli9 (and her metal claws moving on the grass) move toward the center of the huddle off-panel. GIANA [to Amanda, in a whisper angry; Panel 4]: What the fuck are you doing?! AMANDA [to Giana, equally perturbed and in a whisper; Panel 4]: I could ask you the same damn thing, G! She's just started to not distrust or hate us with a passion. Besides, we could use any backup who knows how to fight. GIANA [slightly less angry, but confrontational; Panel 5]: I know I know, Mandy. But she's from another timeline! What would happen if bringing her there creates a paradox that obliterates the planet? AMANDA [agreeing, though still trying to make her point]: That's...plausible, I guess. But there's another elephant in the room here, G. Panel 6: Cut to a close-up of Giana's face a split second later. She looks down toward the ground, letting out a heavy sigh and closing her mouth tightly while still locked in the huddle from the majority of the page. Her face contorting in the same patterns of someone trying to hold back a raft of emotion. The words of the statement hitting close to home as she ponders while Amanda finishes. AMANDA [Cont., Off-Panel]: Namely, the whole "she's probably your Mom" thing. GIANA [through weighted breath]: It...[sighs] Okay, it does bother me!
