Ghede: Guerrier Extraordinaire #3: Pages 9-10
Page 9, 7 Panels- Avain's Dhom, In-Between Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that tracks the Dhom's rise and fall as a result of the newly formed wave as well as our two heroes bracing for impact. In Panel 1, the ship glides eight feet off of the water as if it were a kite in the sky. In Panel 2, you can see the craft's descent downward with the front of it tipping downward and the rear going upward. And in Panel 3, the Dhom slams back into the water, sending water shooting out on both sides. We see Ghede flung forward simultaneously with the action. Panel 4: Action shot of the Haitian guerrier ten feet above the ship at the same moment. You can see Avain looking up from ground level, holding the ship's steering wheel on both sides. She's only barely getting her bearings together at this point. Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, as her body crosses over the front railing of the ship, she thrusts her Molltach down to the hardwood floor (along with her arm which stretches outward) to use it as an anchor. Panel 6-7: Cut to a shot of the ground seconds later of the beautifully made sword crashing halfway through the wood. You can see little splinters of it shooting out both ways, in the foreground and the background. In Panel 7, we see Ghede contort her body and start to quickly come back in the direction of the Dhom in the background. Page 10, 5 Panels- Avain's Dhom, In-Between Panel 1: We move to a shot of the Haitian guerrier moments later, soaring majestically through the air with Avain glancing up from the wheel. Her arm retracts back toward its more normal configuration at the same moment that he lets go of the Molltach. Panel 2-4: A three-part set of panels centered around the same type of setting that we saw in the previous panel. In Panel 2, Ghede contorts her body into a ball, flipping end over end. In Panel 3, her flip continues onward to the point that she starts to turn back upright and break out of the ball as more of the ship appears in the bottom of the panel view. And finally, in Panel 4, we see our titular heroine start to fully unravel and glide down to the ship's hardwood floor. Panel 5: Action shot seconds later showing Ghede landing feet first on the damaged wood of the Dhom. Barely a drop of sweat and effort coming off of her face as a result of it. You can see Avain looking on from the background with his back pressing against the front of the wheel. His mouth agape trying to catch his breath after the tight condensing of massive action he'd undertaken. AVAIN [translated from French]: Thank the gods...I don't have a stomach...anymore.
