Ghede: Guerrier Extraordinaire #3: Pages 23-24
Page 23, 6 Panels- Avain's Dhom Panel 1: Cut to Avain standing a couple of feet away from the voodoo specter. He has his arms crossed over his chest, watching as she continues cleaning off-panel. A look of ponderance on his face as he takes in the bulk of her rules. AVAIN [translated from French; apprehensive]: Right...good to know! Panel 2: Same setting as the previous panel a moment later. The layout widens slightly to take in a little more of the ship. Avain drops his arms to his side and starts cleaning a still sticky chunk of Charybdis guts off the side of the ship's main housing. His focus split between that action and chatting with Ghede. AVAIN [Cont.]: Anyway, through the battle up there...I could hear you singing something. Panel 3: Cut to Ghede who has moved up to the railing of the rear end of the ship. As you can see a chunk of the guts sliding off back into the waters, the last of a relatively 85% cleaned area, she turns her head back toward her friend, flashing a half grin. GHEDE [translated from French]: Oh, Sleater-Kinney! They're a human rock-and-roll band. One of the better ones I've found... Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. She turns the rest of her body back around toward Avain, whose shadow appears somewhat in the right side of the panel. You can see the Haitian guerrier leaning up against the metal railing as she speaks. GHEDE [Cont.]: Wanna belt a few as we finish cleaning this rig up? Panel 5: Cut back to Avain as this goes on. He stops a couple of steps away from his friend. He looks equal parts open to the idea, but also apprehensive in terms of the greater reason why they're here. AVAIN: What about Kagu-Tsuchi? Shouldn't we be trying to expedite the search for him and Ozawa? GHEDE [Off-Panel, dismissive]: They can wait for a few minutes. Panel 6: Back to Ghede in relatively the same position and layout that we saw of her in Panel 4. She looks down slightly in a pondering fashion, trying to come up with which song to use for the occasion. GHEDE: Now...which song do you want to sing? Page 24, 6 Panels- Avain's Dhom Panel 1: Cut to the good formerly living Frenchman who was born as a woman. He looks over at Ghede and scratches the side of his chin with his right thumb, stepping away from the mess on his ship and thinking for a moment. He shrugs while still looking downward toward the floor. AVAIN [translated from French]: I'm not all that...familiar with the band's repetoire of songs. Panel 2: Back to Ghede a second later. A confident smile is seen plastered on her face along with a matching sense of confidence in her body language. You can see underneath her feet a path of relatively cleaned off wooden floor below her. GHEDE [translated from French]: Alright...I know the perfect song. The title though might not be the greatest on your end. Panel 3: Back to Avain a second later. He furrows his brow slightly. A touch of apprehension appearing in his body language. His arms drop down to their sides again as he takes another step toward his friend. AVAIN: What's it called? GHEDE [Off-Panel]: "The Ballad of A Ladyman" Panel 4: Side shot taking in both of our heroes a second later. Ghede is seen a couple of inches above the ground on the left side of the panel view, and Avain is standing on the right side of the panel view (now visibly annoyed and looking away). She reaches over and pats her friend on the shoulder slightly. GHEDE [to Avain]: The song itself is far less problematic than the title suggests. AVAIN [apprehensive]: Well...I'm not sure. GHEDE [Cont.]: I'll show you-- Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Ghede drops her arm back down to her shoulder after a couple of moments have elapsed from Panel 4. You can see a piece of paper suddenly appears in the air just in front of Avain's chest. He leans his head forward slightly in order to read the top of the lyric sheet. AVAIN [reading/singing in relatively tune]: Eye cream and thigh cream how 'bout a get high cream? Nothing I do smoothes out the feelings of being used The Ballad of a Ladyman... Panel 6: Cut to a proper, slight close-up of the formerly living Frenchman a second later. He stops singing and lets out a tiny bit of a snicker. A little section of his teeth, yellowed and slightly misaligned, can be seen peaking through his lips. Though his body language still shows a degree of apprehension in it. AVAIN [Cont.]: Okay...Okay! GHEDE [Off-Panel]: Freak that I am...
