The Boo-Ya! #1: Pages 13-14
Page 13, 6 Panels- Command Center, ETA Division, Brussels Belgium Panel 1: We cut back Earthbound to a shot of Commander Weber standing in the middle of the Center twenty minutes later. Her eyes focused squarely on the off-panel main screen, watching as the Boo-Ya! moves closer to our planet's atmospher. A steely look firmly planted on her face as she speaks. COMMANDER WEBER [to Weapons station]: No change in flight path...what are our attack options? Panel 2: Cut to the Weapons station of the Center a few seconds later. In particular, a shot of Privates Barnes looking back from his station toward his superior officer. His fingertips touching the keyboard gently as he speaks. Behind him, you can see his computer screen displaying an image of the types of aircraft that he describes to the Commander at the same moment. PRIVATE BARNES [to Commander Weber]: We have a handful of F17 Tornados ready to launch at the UFO as well as the next gen B2 Spirit. Panel 3-4: A two-part set of panels centered back on the Commander a couple of beats later. The setting and layout similiar to what we saw in the page's first panel. In Panel 3, we see her nodding approvingly at the news, flashing a tiny bit of a grin. One that quickly fades from view by the time we reach Panel 4 as the veteran soldier from Germany returns to her baseline stoic demeanor. COMMANDER WEBER [Panel 3]: The Americans finally relented and gave us one of their new space-capable jets...ganz gut! Took them long enough! COMMANDER WEBER [Panel 3, Bubble 2; to Private Barnes]: Get the jet fueled and ready to take off in ten. PRIVATE BARNES [Off-Panel; Panel 3]: Yes, Commander! COMMANDER WEBER [to the Communications section; Panel 4]: Any response from the alien aircraft yet? Panel 5: Cut to a shot of Private Colabello sitting at one of the many stations in the Communications area of the base Command Center. An Italian woman with black eyes and red hair that is neatly placed inside the standard issue hat that comes with her NATO uniform. In the background, there's a similar type of layout that we saw with Private Barnes in Panel 2, showing the same type of text, looped in to different grammatical configurations to factor in what the alien language could look like. PRIVATE COLABELLO [shakes her head; to the Commander]: Nothing, Commander. It could mean they're still deciphering the message or they've heard it and... SOUND EFFECT [Off-Panel]: BWAAP BWAAP....! Danger... Panel 6: We move to a full shot of the Center's main radar screen a couple of moments later. To the left of the screen, we see a section of the Earth seen from far off in space. Around the left of the screen, inches from the shot of Earth, we see the large red dot representing the Boo-Ya! very close to penetrating the atmospher and a series of smaller dots below that main dot that have a lighter shade of red. All around this action, the Center shakes with the sound of the alarm blaring and the flash of red from the ceilings that come with each dire warnings. COMPUTER VOICE: Mystery object breaking apart from the spacecraft. Will reach the upper atmosphere in the next ten minutes. Page 14, 5 Panels- Command Center, NATO's ETA Division, Brussels Belgium Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels centered back on Commander Weber in the same position that we last saw her in in the previous page. The setting and layout is also similar to what we saw in the aforementioned Panels 3 and 4. In Panel 1, we see the veteran soldier looking on at the scene with a degree of shock at the discovery that soon shifts to a spurt of rage at the second half of her statement. In the next panel, moments later, we see the full display of that anger in her voice and body language, focusing her steely gaze in the direction of the nearest subordinate that she can see. COMMANDER WEBER [trying to piece things together; Panel 1]: It can break apart...of fucking course it does-- COMMANDER WEBER [Cont., to Private Barnes with a roaring bellow; Panel 2]: BARNES! Panel 3: Cut to a shot of the young soldier, frozen in attention from head to toe by the loud roar from his commanding officer. His right hand holding on to the door handle as he looks back anxiously for the statement. You can see the good Commander in the background of the shot moving in toward the young man's position. COMMANDER WEBER [to Private Barnes]: Make it three F17s, and--tell them to have a C17 with arms and a dozen men set to to greet these aliens when they arrive. PRIVATE BARNES [to Commander Weber, with some trepidation]: Um, that seems a little excessive to the situation, ma'am. Especially if they turn out to be hostile, or the dots are actually... COMMANDER WEBER [annoyed, Bubble 2]: No excuses, soldier! Just get it done. Panel 4: We move a split second later to Private Cartwright's cubicle. She leans her head over her shoulder in the direction of the yelling Commander. A spark of intrigue given by the conversation that she's just overheard. In the background, you can see the computer screen. Her hands just hovering above the keyboard as she listens. COMMANDER WEBER [Cont., Off-Panel]: The safety of the planet, and your job, depends solely on keeping this operation away from the prying eyes of the press. Once we have the spacecraft and its inhabitants under our control, then we can bring them... PRIVATE CARTWRIGHT [intrigued, thinking]: They're gonna make contact with the ship? Holy shit, this is--I gotta be on that plane! Panel 5: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout widens slightly to take in the other soldier who happens to be seated right next to her at that moment. We see Ms. Cartwright start to stand up from her chair at the same moment. Her body just beginning to turn toward the door, with her left arm pushing the chair back. The soldier in the other cubicle notices the action and looks over in Robin's direction as she moves. PRIVATE CARTWRIGHT [to the other soldier]: Cover for me, will you Jess? JESS [to Private Cartwright]: Where the hell are you going?! PRIVATE CARTWRIGHT [Bubble 2]: I'm going where the aliens are! JESS [Bubble 2]: When are you coming back? PRIVATE CARTWRIGHT [Bubble 3]: I'll be back by tomorrow. They won't even know I'm gone! I mean, it's not like any of the officers give a shit about the IT department. JESS [Bubble 3]: If the Commander catches you, you know you're gonna get kicked out...
