Ghede: Guerrier Extraordinaire #4: Pages 27-28

Page 27, 6 Panels- Avain's Dhom Engine Room Panel 1: Cut to a shot moments later of the long, sharp and gleaming blade as it pierces the flesh of the Ebbo. The creature screaming out in holy terror with head craned skyward; droplets of blue-gray blood popping up all around the body in the panel view. As this goes on, you can see a crackle of white start to descend from the top down on the wounded Ebbo just as this goes down. Panel 2: In a continual stream of action from the first panel of the page, we see a loud firecrackle of an explosion tear into the contained space of the engine room. The outline of the creature's skeleton can be seen just as it gets charred by whatever was the source of the explosion (starting somewhere from above). As for our titular heroine, she's sent flying back toward the unseen opposite wall as a result of the explosion. Panel 3: A few moments later, we cut to Ghede as she slowly pushes herself back up to her feet. The bright white light has dissipated as quickly as it came onto the scene. She's woozy and trying to get her bearings back together again, rubbing the side of her head with her left hand. GHEDE [translated from Haitian Creole]: Oookay...I can do without that for a long fucking while. Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. She starts to drop her hand and arm back down to her side. Her eyes, fully opened, now take a glimpse at the unseen Ebbo off-panel and walking towards it. GHEDE [Cont., tiny grin]: The results are pretty brilliant, though...I didn't know Minaj had that in her. AVAIN [Off-Panel, translated from French]: Actually, that was me... Panel 5: Cut to Avain looking down from the hole underneath the floorboard that the now deceased Ebbo caused. He looks down with a note of apology in his eyes as well as the front of what appears to be a large green and black assault rifle-like weapon that juts out into view alongside him. AVAIN [Cont.]: I thought a little jolt from Sweetie, alongside Minaj could do the trick with that Ebbo. On a separate note...I heard that heroic one-liner you spouted fighting the Ebbo horde. Panel 6: Back to the Haitian guerrier back below. She looks up, a mix of defensiveness and a feeling of being impressed by the ingenuity of her friend at that moment as she levitates off the ground and back up through the hole. You can see in the background over her left shoulder for the first time, albeit faintly, the blackened remains of the creature on the wall. AVAIN [Off-Panel]: Couldn't you have tried something with a tad more poetic je ne sais quoi? GHEDE [translated from French, scoffs]: Yeaahh...But the action hero was too fun to pass up! Anyway... Page 28, 6 Panels- Avain's Dhom Panel 1: Cut to a shot back on the upper floor to the Dhom. We see Ghede emerge flying out of the hole. At the same time, Avain has his back turned from her and is slowly pushing himself back up to his feet. He's holding the handle of the weapon, using it as a cane as he moves. GHEDE [Cont., to Avain; translated from French]: would've been nice to see your mug pop up earlier, after the shield was activated. What the hells took you? AVAIN [translated from French]: I was sidetracked by a message. GHEDE: From who? AVAIN: Kagu-Tsuchi... Panel 2: We move the action a little ways up from the ship. The hole in the floor now faded completely from view at this point. The Haitian guerrier can be seen floating above Avain in the background, following his every step as he makes his way back to the steering area. GHEDE [chuckles, looking down toward Avain]: The rampaging horde of creepy teddy bear-looking creatures wasn't enough? What'd he say? AVAIN [looking out toward the river]: Oh, it wasn't that kind of message... Panel 3: Slight close-up on the other half our heroic duo moments later. He has stopped his forward momentum that had gone on through the whole of the page previously. The Captain reaches out and points to a single are in the right off-panel area. You can see parts of Ghede's legs and feet somewhat in the background. AVAIN [Cont.]: It was more of the non-verbal, highly intimidating, "scare the crap out of you" design. Panel 4: Cut slightly up as this goes on to our titular heroine. She looks over in the same direction that Avain pointed out in the previous panel. Her eyes and head just beginning to tilt up toward the sky as a result of it. GHEDE [mouth slightly agape]: Ahhh...I see. Panel 5-6: The two panels combine to form a comprehensive tapestry of the distance still yet to come for our two heroes who we see from the back. They're laid out around the bottom edges of the panels, aka the center point, looking up at what appears to be a massive mountain where once was a hill. On top of it lies the house we saw the last time we viewed the hill, and on each side, there is the forested area on either side. GHEDE [Panel 5, to Avain; hovering just above the wood floor]: Business as usual then? AVAIN [Panel 6, to Ghede]: Traverse the river, climb the scary mountain, defeat the vengeful god at the top. Yep...the usual. GHEDE [Panel 5, to Avain]: Is that dread I hear in your voice, Avi? AVAIN [Panel 6, to Ghede]: Not at all, Ghed. I was thinking about the name for this mountain. Mt. Menaçant felt fitting to me. GHEDE [Panel 5, to Avain]: Till we beat him, obviously. Then it's Mt. Surcompensation. AVAIN [Panel 6, to Ghede]: Yeah...I could see that too! END OF ISSUE 4
