Ghede: Guerrier Extraordinaire #5: Pages 9-10
Page 9, 7 Panels- Avain's Dhom Panel 1-2: Cut back to a chest tall shot of Ghede in the same hovering position over the Dhom's front railing that we saw her in during her previous appearance in the last page. Her focus in Panel 1 is to the side out toward the off-panel half of the forested area. In Panel 2, however, the Haitian guerrier's face moves back to the river. GHEDE [Cont., translated from French; Panel 1]: The evil little fucker has an extremely strong survival instinct. He wouldn't provide an impediment to his own rescue unless... GHEDE [Cont., distressed; Panel 2]: SHIT! Panel 3: Back to Avain standing in front of the steering wheel. His eyes move slightly down from the elevated position we saw in the final panel of the previous page downward, tracking the off-panel descent from his friend. AVAIN [translated from French; slightly concerned]: What? What is it? Panel 4: We move back to Ghede a split second later. She has begun to land back down to the ship's wooden floor near the opened hole. She doesn't seem to address or notice him as her right foot is ever so close to contact. AVAIN [Cont., to Ghede]: Ghede?! GHEDE [to herself]: Posesyon imen... Panel 5: Close-up on the titular heroine a moment later. She's standing only a couple of steps away from the hole. She turns her head over toward Avain's direction to fully elucidate her thought. GHEDE [to Avain]: Human possession! AVAIN [Off-Panel; to Ghede]: I'm well aware what human possession is, Ghed... Panel 6: Cut to the good captain a beat afterwards. We see that he has moved three steps away from the steering wheel, which appears in the background behind him along with the Dhom's front railing. You can see the look of concern and curiosity plastered on his face as he speaks. AVAIN [Cont., scratching his head with his thumb]: What I'm not entirely sure about is how Kagu-Tsuchi could possess Mr. Ozawa. I thought only ghosts and those beings with no tangible connection to the living or non-living realms could do such a thing. GHEDE [Off-Panel]: Well, Kagu-Tsuchi is a ghost, Avi. Panel 7: Back to Ghede a few moments later. She turns the rest of her body back toward Avain's direction. Her arms folded over her chest, and the top half of her torso leaning back slightly in a cool fashion as she speaks. GHEDE [to Avain]: He was killed by his father while in human form, which by human standards...puts him squarely in the ghost column. Page 10, 6 Panels- Avain's Dhom Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. A couple of moments pass by timewise, and Ghede shrugs slightly at the tail end of the statement. You can see around the right side of the panel view a shadow being cast which represents the good captain Avain as he approaches. GHEDE [Cont., translated from French]: It doesn't hurt that the human form's basically a walking lake, which for a water god's...kind of like sliding on a pair of fresh Levi's! AVAIN [Off-Panel, to Ghede; translated from French]: Okay... Panel 2: Cut to Avain in mid-stride a handful of steps from his friend. The steering wheel is still somewhat in view in the background, as well as the front of the Dhom. You can also see part of the ship's main complex appearing around the top left side of the panel view. A look of curiosity on his face, trying to piece together the last threads of logic in the situation. AVAIN: But wouldn't the I-B react negatively to the foreign presence found in Kagu-Tsuchi? Panel 3-4: Back to Ghede just a moment after the good captain finishes his question. Our heroine nods gently, and somewhat dismissively. Her body already moving over toward the hole nearby. Which in Panel 4, she starts to gently float inside it. GHEDE [Panel 3, to Avain]: It's designed to work that way. But there are some loopholes in its security structure like the person's willpower, their health, and for the right price... GHEDE [Cont., Panel 4]: A handy dandy protection spell. Panel 5: Back to Avain a moment later. He's in mid-stride trying to catch up to his friend. A look of dread can be seen over his face as he finally starts to piece together the context to the story. His eyes glancing down into the opened hole in order to address his friend. AVAIN: So, basically....we're dealing with a powerful water god who can summon water golems and now, thanks to magic, can make mountains appear out of thin air without consequence. GHEDE [Off-Panel, echoing from within]: Yep, pretty much... Panel 6: Cut to a shot of the opened doorway to the complex. The wooden outer walls and the rectangular design of the Dhom's main complex can be seen over the top corners of the background, creating a sort of frame in the shot. GHEDE [Cont.]: Why do you think I'm giving the engines a little friendly boost?
