James Brighton Society, Chapter 2: Pages 9-10

Page 9, 6 Panels- D.C. Metro Police Precinct Office, Georgetown section of Washington D.C.

Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. Action shot of our heroine springing up to her feet toward the door in a flash. Her body is like a blur as she moves to the left of the panel view. You can see her tossing the folders she did have on her lap behind her and on to the desktop.

DISPATCH [Cont., from the speakers]: There's already a patrol car on the scene, but it's open season for a Detective.

Panel 2: At the same time this is taking place, we move to a shot of another Detective (Detective Lewis) quickly moving in the same direction towards the door. He quickly grabs his sidearm off the armrest of his chair as he goes. You can see the same type of arrangement befitting his desk with papers, a typewriter and framed photos of family and loved ones that we saw on Tasha's in the previous page (though a little more cleaner than hers).

Panel 3-4: A two-part set of panels that take place under a minute later. In Panel 3, Det. Lewis is standing in front of the door leading outside, which is featured prominently in the background. His late 30's face of granite flashes an evil grin toward the young woman; his left hand on the door. In Panel 4, as he speaks, you can see Tasha reach to her own holster to grab the handle on something.

DET. LEWIS [cocky, to Det. Randolph; Panel 3]: I was a Fullback in high school...you really think you can get past me? DET. RANDOLPH [chuckling, to Det. Lewis; Panel 4]: Truthfully, Jeffrey?...

Panel 5: A 1/2 page sized panel that takes in, from the side, the whole of the front lobby to the precinct office. We see the good Detective running from right to left (in 3 separate pics, ending in a slide) toward her colleague doing the same. At the same time, you can see her pull out what appears to be an extra-sized billy club.

Panel 6: Action shot located on the bottom left portion of the page. It's taken from the rear which shows Tasha smacking the Detective square in the testicles. Though we don't see Det. Lewis' face at this point, we can hear the pained screams of the man as a result of what's happened.

Page 10, 5 Panels- D.C. Metro Police Precinct Office/Avalon Arms, Georgetown section of Washington D.C.

Panel 1: Same setting as the last panel of the previous page. The layout widens slightly, shifting outside of the doorway and following Det. Randolph walking away with the confident stride of victory. Her billy club returning to a normal size as she speaks. You can see Det. Lewis bent down on the ground in the background behind her, along with one of the officers looking on with an amazed look on their face.

DET. RANDOLPH [quick nod]: You never stood a chance. Oh, and I trust you'll let me borrow your ride.

Panel 2-4: A three-part set of panels that move on to a single shot of the Avalon Arms later on. The snow falling down at a steady, albeit not highly accumulating pace compared to what had taken place when we last saw the exterior in the first chapter. You can see a grouping of police cars on the bottom left corner of the panel view in each of the three panels, with Tasha's ride coming into view from right to left in Panels 3 and 4.

DET. RANDOLPH [Cont., Off-Panel caption; Panel 2]: Unless you want some more embarrassment.

Panel 5: Cut to a close-up of the hood to Det. Lewis' cruiser a couple of seconds later. A lovely 1942 Studebaker bathed in the standard police colors (black and white, with more white this night, thanks to the storm) with the police siren on top. The driver's side door opens, and we see Tasha step out and look over in the direction of the entrance to the apartment building, ready for business.
