James Brighton Society, Chapter 2: Pages 13-14
Page 13, 6 Panels- Avalon Arms, Georgetown section of Washington D.C. Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that focus on the same setting and layout that we saw in the last panel of the previous page. In the first panel, we see the Detective walk out and move toward the right of the panel view, passing what appears in the background to be a sizable dent in the wall. One that Tasha notices in Panel 2 and stops in her tracks a couple of steps away. Panel 3: Cut to a slight close-up of her turning around to examine the mysterious dent, touching it with her right upstage hand slowly. You can see the rest of the hallway stretching off behind her in the background toward the window, along with the doors on both sides leading to the other apartments on that floor. DET. RANDOLPH [thought bubble]: A dent in the wall...pretty big one, just above waist level...maybe the Mechs made it when they got in? No, that doesn't sound right. Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Tasha shakes her head in disagreement to her previous thought, moving back into a standing position with the same quizzical look on her face that she had in Panel 3. Her head, along with her gaze, tilting over her shoulder as she begins to make her way to the apartment. DET. RANDOLPH [Cont., thought bubble]: They're built with a full range of motion sensors. Unless they were bugging out, they'd never bump into a wall intentionally. That's something more...human. Shit! Panel 5: Cut to an interior shot of Mr. Brennan's apartment. The two Mechs are standing in the center of the heavily damaged living room, scanning the entire scene with their eyes that rotate 360 degrees to take in everything as much as their 6-foot frame can see. You can see the edge of a doorway in view to the left side of the panel. DET. RANDOLPH [Off-Panel caption]: I have an idea what might have happened. We'll see whether or not the two bucket of bolts prove me right. Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A couple of seconds pass by, and the CSI Mechs stop their endless scan of the apartment upon the sound of the good Detective appearing in the doorway. Their metallic heads both focused toward the off-panel doorway where she's standing at this point. DET. RANDOLPH [to the Mechs]: Hey brobots... Page 14, 7 Panels- The former Steve Brennan's Apartment, Avalon Arms, Georgetown section of Washington D.C. Panel 1: Cut to a close-up shot of Ms. Randolph standing a couple of steps away from the door, which is partially opened in the background as she speaks. You can also see a few edges of the walls on each side of the panel view, illuminated by the street lights outside as well as the regular light above them. DET. RANDOLPH [Cont., all business]: What have you got? Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that connect to the same setting and time. Namely, the opposite side of the room where we see the top halves of both Mecha CSIs looking back at them. They each look precisely the same with their chiseled, metallic looks and dark hair of iron. The tops of their police issued dark blue coats are also visible at the bottoms of each of the two panels. MECHA #1 (FAB) [robotic voice, Panel 2]: Nothing that would merit a great deal more investigating, Detective. MECHA #2 (FREDDY) [robotic voice, Panel 3]: We theorize it was a couple of Negro youths who broke in to his apartment. A struggle ensued, resulting in a few hundred dollars worth of damage to furniture and kitchen appliances, and proceeded with their loot of $150 in cash and clothes-- Panel 4: We move back to the good Detective in the same setting and layout as the first panel. She takes a step forward toward the robotic co-workers, flashing a look of annoyance as she fires back at the assertion from the two Mechas. As she moves, you can see her left hand pointing outside behind her. DET. RANDOLPH [interjecting]: Where's the body? Have either of you two accounted for that in your "scans," or for that big ass dent in the hallway? Panel 5-6: Cut to a shot of Mecha #1 (aka Fab) a few seconds later. The setting and layout behind him is similar to what we saw in Panel 2. His cold robotic face remains stoically the same as it was in the previous panel, explaining the situation as calmly as possible. Mecha #2 (aka Freddy) chimes in in Panel 6 with the same look on his face as his compatriot. MECHA #1 (FAB) [robotic voice, Panel 5]: Incidental contact made by the robbers, nothing more. As for the body, we have yet to find it on the premises. We have theorized that, in the heat of conflict, Mr. Brennan escaped and went to a pay phone in order to contact the authorities. It would explain the identity of the person who called in the attempted robbery. MECHA #2 (FREDDY) [robotic voice, Panel 6]: Officer Jones is already trying to get the names of any known relatives of Mr. Brennan as well as his employer to find out where he is. Panel 7: Back to a shot of Tasha a second later in a similar setting and layout to what we saw in Panel 4. You can see a little more of the walls on both sides of the panel view as she stands still a few feet away from her mechanical co-workers. She lets out a dejected groan to the whole situation and looks up toward the ceiling. DET. RANDOLPH [aggravated, to the Mechas]: Can I check out the bedroom for clues, or have you already theorized what happened there? MECHA #2 (FREDDY) [Off-Panel]: I do not see why not... DET. RANDOLPH [sarcastic, Bubble 2]: Thanks...
