James Brighton Society, Chapter 2: Pages 19-20
Page 19, 7 Panels- Grem's Workstation, Downtown Washington D.C. Panel 1: Action shot of Mr. Allen a few seconds later walking over to the doorway to take care of his cat who starts to walk away from the door toward the area where she eats her dinner. A smile curled across his face as he walks. In the background, you can see the glow of the worklights as well as a section of his table to the left of his shoulder. GREM [Cont.]: I should have a little liver and eggs still left for ya in the fridge. Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that move toward a side shot of our hero as he reaches the door. In Panel 2, he grabs the doorknob and starts to open up while humming a melody to himself. In the next panel, just as he's about to step out, he hears an unlocking procedure come to life from back inside which grabs his attention and causes him to look over his shoulder. Panel 4: Cut to a shot of the work table with the safe in front of it, illuminated on both sides by lights just as it was earlier. The sound of unlocking that was evident in the previous panel has stopped at this point. You can see, in shadow form, the back of Gremlin to the reader looking on at the scene alongside the rest of us. GREM [slightly confused]: Was that...? Panel 5-7: A three-part set of panels that center on the face of our protagonist, looking on from the fully opened doorway with a section of the hallway behind him in the background of each panel. In Panel 5, the immortal Irishman hums the same pleasant melody that he did back in Panel 2 in order to test the theory he has mapped in his head. It leads in the next panel to the sound of the door unlocking off-panel, which elicits a growing smile of discovery after so many hours of work. Finally, in Panel 7, Grem lets out a chuckle in connection with the smile from the panel before. GREM [to himself, kicking himself for not thinking; Panel 7]: Specially calibrated sound locks--of course! Page 20, 6 Panels- Grem's Workstation/Kitchen, Downtown Washington D.C. Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that center on a side shot back inside the workstation. His work table is seen occupying the right side of both panels. In Panel 1, it focuses on an action shot of Grem as he runs over to the table to pick up the metal safe, which he grabs with both hands by the time we reach Panel 2. GREM [Narration caption, Panel 2]: I've been alive for well over a century... Panel 3: Cut to the kitchen a few minutes later with Grem fixing a dish of liver on a plate. Athena can be seen sitting on the counter near the plate, patiently waiting for her dinner to be complete. In the background, you can see a few rows of cabinets where the plates and food are kept as well as part of the stove on the left of the panel view. GREM [Cont., narration caption]: I've seen a lot of things in those years. Some brilliant, some amazing, and others...I try to burn out of my brain with copious amounts of alcohol. Or a lot of tinkering. Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few moments later, after finishing the meal for his long-time pet, he turns his attention toward the right of the panel view toward something that is off-panel. His left hand can be seen without looking gently petting the top of his cat at the same moment, causing the animal to mew happily. GREM [Cont., narration caption]: In all that time, I've collected enough info that it takes a whole hell of a lot to surprise me. Panel 5-6: A two-part set of panels taken a couple of beats later; our protagonist standing in front of the door to the safe, which is in front of him at that moment. In Panel 5, you can see him open the door that is upstage from the reader and start to reach inside for something. In the next panel, the casual and excited manner in his face that was evident going back to the previous page suddenly fades, pulling out a piece of clothing from within. GREM [Cont., narration caption; Panel 5]: So those times when it does happen are quite delightful. GREM [stunned, shaking his head in disbelief; Panel 6]: The colors...it--it can't be! GREM [narration caption, Panel 6]: ...usually!
