James Brighton Society, Chapter 3: Pages 9-10

Page 9, 6 Panels- Grem's Workstation/D2T2, Downtown Washington D.C./Woodland

Panel 1-2: We move back to a shot of the good Detective, observing Grem as he continues muttering to himself while he looks over the data. She has a clear look of confusion on her face, trying to figure out what exactly the Irishman is saying. In Panel 2, we see the young woman turn her head to try to follow as Grem dashes behind her in the background in the direction of the door.

DET. RANDOLPH [looking for clarification, to Grem; Panel 1]: What does that mean? GREM [in a rush, Panel 2]: D2T2... DET. RANDOLPH [more confused, Panel 2]: Is that a code for something?

Panel 3: Cut to Grem standing in the slightly opened doorway to his workstation. He looks back in Det. Randolph's direction, flashing a cocky half-smile toward her as he speaks. You can see a beam of light emanating through the hallway from the hallway illuminating part of his clothes.

GREM [confidently, to Det. Randolph]: No, it's the address where we'll look for clues. DET. RANDOLPH [chuckling, Off-Panel]: Address? No way that's an address!

Panel 4: Cut to an exterior shot of a two-story house located on the corner of 22nd Street and Ridge Place SE. It's covered with snow heightened by the sunlight, except for the yard which is considerably green. It looks relatively inconspicuous, as if it's no different than any of the other houses that are seen on the corners of the panel view.

DET. RANDOLPH [Off-Panel]: Son of a bitch, it is! CAPTION: D2T2 Woodland, Washington D.C. 20 Minutes Later

Panel 5: We move to a street-level shot of our two protagonists minutes later as they walk up to the gate, which appears slightly from the bottom of the panel view. While Grem is seen waving his right hand in a series of movements just above the front of the fence, Tasha is seen looking up at the house quizzically, trying to figure out what is inside the area.

DET. RANDOLPH [pointing forward with her left hand, to Grem]: Who are the two bozos standing at the door? GREM [explanatory and calm, to Det. Randolph]: They are Dolph and Dax...

Panel 6: Close-up on Mr. Allen a couple of beats later after he's finished with his hand movements. As he's speaking, you can hear the sound toward the right of the panel view of a gate opening up. In the background, you can also see a little section of the neighborhood and the people who occupy it.

GREM [Cont., with a warning]: And they really don't take kind to being called "bozos." DET. RANDOLPH [Off-Panel: Why's that?

Panel 1: Action shot of the two of them walking side-by-side down a concrete pathway that leads to the house's front entrance. Grem's messenger bag swinging a little bit forward as he walks. Parts of the yard can be seen in both sides of the panel view, along with the gate behind them in the background as it closes behind them.

GREM [add-on, to Det. Randolph]: It's a goblin thing. One that people have never catalogued about them over the millennia, especially when, like them, they're abnormally sized for their spe-- DET. RANDOLPH [interjecting, surprised and looking for a clarification; to Grem]: "Goblins?" You're saying they exist? GREM [Bubble 2]: Of course, as long as society's been society, and keep your voice down...

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves things toward the front porch of the house a half-minute later. It's here in Panel 2 that we see Dolph and Dax standing sentry at the door. A pair of physically imposing creatures built like linebackers with light green classic goblin faces. Dolph's wearing a T-shirt and jeans while Dax wears a button-up and a pair of trousers. In Panel 3, our two protagonists appear to the left of the panel view to meet the two of them.

GREM [Off-Panel, Panel 2]: On top of an overly-sensitive nature, they also have very sensitive hearing and can lift a pallet of bricks without blinking. So, keep calm and...maybe we can get the hells out of here in one piece. GREM [with a grin, to Dolph and Dax; Panel 3]: Morning! You two are looking particularly...nimble today.

Panel 4: Close-up on Dolph's face a split second after Mr. Allen finishes his statement. She folds her arms over his chest, flashing the shorter human a look of consternation at his appearance. You can see part of the light brown wall of the patio to the left of the background as she speaks.

DOLPH [to Grem, with a groan]: What do you want, Grem?

Panel 5: Back to a shot of Grem standing in front of the physically imposing goblin. He chuckles at the question and smiles dismissively, trying to pour on the charm in order to defuse any sign of growing tension between the two of them.

GREM [dismissively, to Dolph]: Aw c'mon Dolph, I'm not looking for anything. I just wanted to say hi to your mor. It's been moons since we've chatted. She still make a good cuppa Chai?...

Panel 6-7: A two-part set of panels that centers back on Tasha, watching the explanation from the immortal Irishman. After shaking her head in Panel 6 upon seeing the path that this conversation was set to take, in Panel 7, the good Detective reveals the ancient looking document that she'd been holding since the previous page.

DET. RANDOLPH [remarks to herself, Panel 6]: This is gonna get really annoying quick... DET. RANDOLPH [to Dolph, calmly; Panel 7]: Hi, Natasha Randolph, Metro P.D. We're hoping to find somebody who can translate this for a case I'm working on.
