James Brighton Society, Chapter 5: Pages 7-8
Page 7, 5 Panels- The Cloak Room, Washington D.C.
Panel 1: Cut back to the Detective from the other side of the table moments later. She looks down at a stack of newspapers that have been paced in front of her by the cat, sitting in front of her 1/2-full Cusha glass. Her hand can be seen reaching out to pick up while Mr. Allen speaks off-panel.
GREM [Off-Panel]: Sir Reginald Davis III, 5th Earl of Birmingham, Royal Intelligence Corp. (before it became MI5). One of the few souls alive who are as obsessed with the supernatural as I am. He's buddies with a half-dozen Prime Ministers and just as many European royals, including the current English king George II (who is the first in a while from that bloody palace I don't actually loathe).
Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that focus still on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. In Panel 2, Tasha grabs hold of the first of the newspapers and gazes at the photograph. A moment later, in Panel 3, she looks up in the direction of the immortal Irishman upon hearing the end of his statement.
GREM [Cont., Panel 2]: He was also one of the principal architects behind Troia Nova... DET. RANDOLPH [interjecting with confusion, to Grem; Panel 3]: Troia what?
Panel 4: We move back to Grem in a similar setting and layout to what we saw at the end of the previous page. He slides a pair of the pancakes onto one of the plates, ready to deliver to Ms. Randolph. You can see already a pair of the other boxty already laid out on another plate ready to go.
GREM [to Det. Randolph, explanatory]: Troia Nova. They're an old British covert agency from the last century. Dealt with a whole lot of shady shite across the planet, including the Anglo-Persian War and...
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as Panel 3. Upon hearing the explanation, you can see a degree of anger come over the good Detective's face, squeezing one of the newspapers in her hand. Her eyes look up directly in Grem's direction; the anger practically shooting out of the young woman's eyes.
DET. RANDOLPH [through gritted teeth]: "Las Llamas Rojas"...that was them?
Page 8, 6 Panels- Grem's Apartment, Washington D.C.
Panel 1: Action shot of Mr. Allen walking through the kitchen in the direction of the living room area, holding plates full of food in both hands. He looks on with a degree of mild surprise and curiosity, nodding in agreement to the question.
GREM [to Det. Randolph]: Aye. I wasn't aware that they teach British-Spanish border disputes in Guatemala.
Panel 2: Cut back to Det. Randolph a few moments later, looking back in Grem's direction as she drops her grip on the newspapers. Her body overall is leaning back as she speaks toward the cushion of the couch she's sitting on.
DET. RANDOLPH [retort, to Grem]: It laid waste to half of the nation's northern territory...wasn't exactly a topic of secrecy.
Panel 3: Cut to a similar type of action shot that we saw at the top of the page as the Irishman nears the recliner chair that lies to the side of the couch, which appears partially on the left of the panel view.
GREM [nods with a measure of apology]: Ah right...I forget sometimes about the inner damages from my continent's colonial crap buffet has wrought on this one.
Panel 4: Back to Tasha in the same setting and layout that we saw in Panel 2. She isn't all that phased by the apology, but accepting to a degree. You can see the plate of food landing on top of the newspapers, along with a fork, as she speaks. Though her eyes are focused squarely on Mr. Allen and not on the food.
DET. RANDOLPH: You talk about it like you were there, Grem.
Panel 5-6: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Grem in the same area that was in play in Panels 1 and 3. In Panel 5, he sits down on the base of the chair, placing the plate gently on his lap. In the next panel, moments later, you can see him reaching over with his free hand to the bag and opening up the front flap.
GREM [apprehensive, holding back a nugget of truth; Panel 5]: I--I wasn't there. I just...I just knew some good people there. Fought beside them, too, against the British Empire... GREM [Cont., changing tack; Panel 6]: Anyway, as you can see, the papers covered many of past events at the JBS.
