James Brighton Society, Chapter 7: Pages 3-4

Page 3, 6 Panels- Azeban's Office, Theodore Roosevelt Island, Washington D.C.

Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that focuses on her work table near the middle of the room. We see Azeban in mid-leap onto the stool in Panel 1, followed in Panel 2 by a search through the assembly of papers and tools that are scattered on top of the table that appears in the bottom of the panel view. By the time we reach Panel 3, the trickster goddess arrives at the end of the table, grabbing what appears to be (through a little window in between papers). In each panel's background, you can see Grem and Tasha looking on curiously, taking a step forward by the time we reach Panel 3.

AZEBAN [to Tasha, nonchalantly; Panel 1]: Easy as a slab of chocolate pie! AZEBAN [Cont., Panel 2]: All I need is my old trusty Bessla and-- AZEBAN [wide smile, Panel 3]: There we go! Now... TASHA [curious, Panel 3]: A book?

Panel 4: We shift to a close-up of Grem (to the right) and Tasha (to the left a handful of steps away from the main action of the first three panels. She flashes the same look of curiosity she had in the previous panel, tilting her head over toward the immortal Irishman looking for a little more explanation on the subject.

TASHA [Cont., to Azeban]: You're gonna make something out of thin air, from a spell book? How would that work exactly? GREM [whispering, to Tasha]: What about Tian? She uses a book of spells and ya didn't have a problem with that. TASHA [whispering interjection, to Grem; Bubble 2]: Yeah, but she also had a cauldron. That's where the bulk of the magic stuff happens, right? GREM [Bubble 2]: Depends on the magic, and the type of sorcerer. Usually though--

Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A second later, their collective attention is drawn to the command from the off-panel trickster god. You can see sparks of yellow flash over the faces of our heroines at that moment. In the background, you can also see some of the same tools we saw earlier along with the door that is 3/4 closed at that point.

AZEBAN [Off-Panel, to Grem and Tasha]: Guys, stop talking!

Panel 6: Cut to a shot of Azeban seated at the stool, looking at the two of them with a calm yet slightly exasperated look on her face. In front of her is the tome itself, opened up with the same initial sparks of yellow energy coming from the center of the page. You can see the wall in the background illuminated in a similar way to what we saw with Grem and Tasha in the previous panel.

AZEBAN [Cont.]: I need as much silence (especially out of you, Gremlin) as possible to pull this off.

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that moves to a shot of Grem and Tasha watching the display going on in front of them; bright yellow and purple flashes enlightening their faces at that moment. The setting and layout behind him is similar to what we saw in the middle of the previous page. You can hear the sounds of rhythmic chanting emanating from Azeban off-panel in both panels.

TASHA [amazed, thought bubble; Panel 1]: Esto es...tan hermosa! AZEBAN [Off-Panel, interrupting the chanting, to Tasha; Panel 1]: That includes mental dialogue...telekinesis! TASHA [apologetic, to Azeban; Panel 2]: Sorry...

Panel 3-5: A three-part set of panels that centers on a section of the area in front of the book, which appears in the top of the panel view in each panel. You can see a pair of squares star to form and come into clearer and clearer view, appearing as typical government issued licenses with their respective pictures (and no data on them, save for their measurements) in Panel 5. You can also see in that panel the appearance of other pieces of identification hidden underneath both piles at that moment.

AZEBAN [Off-Panel, Panel 4]: There...weee... AZEBAN [Cont. confidently, Panel 5]: Go!
