James Brighton Society, Chapter 7: Pages 15-16
Page 15, 6 Panels- Grem's Apartment Library, Washington D.C.
Panel 1: Action shot of Mr. Allen reaching the end of the staircase moments later, looking over at Tasha (who occupies the bulk of the foreground in the panel view). You can see in the distance to the left of the panel view parts of the same bookcases that we saw near the end of the previous page.
GREM [to Tasha, casually wiping off a tear]: Anyway, back to your Da's story...I'm guessing it's got something to do with the Catholic interpretation of Armageddon or the Resurrection. TASHA [slight agreeing nod, to Grem]: It is about Armageddon, that's true. But it's not really Vatican approved.
Panel 2: Slight close-up on the former Detective's face a couple of beats later. She takes a few steps toward the edge of the table, gently touching the table with her fingertips. Her eyes looking with a stoic businesslike demeanor at that moment as she explains.
TASHA [Cont.]: How much do you know about the Nibiru cataclysm?
Panel 3: Back to Grem in the same setting and layout as the top of the page. He places his left hand on the base of the staircase railing, using it as a crutch as he speaks. There's a touch of quizzical curiosity, sparked by a base familiarity with the concept Ms. Randolph has given him.
GREM: I know enough to know the chances of a massive planet crashing or nearly crashing into us are minutely slim. TASHA [Off-Panel]: So did my father...
Panel 4: Cut back to Tasha at the table, picking up a pair of papers that were sitting in front of her on the table. She looks over at Grem as he moves closer to her, casting the first glimpse of a shadow upon her and the table itself.
TASHA [Cont.]: But he thought that the cataclysm could refer to the actions of people that could destroy the planet, like the people who shunned God and were wiped out by the flood in Genesis. All you gotta do is replace "massive flood" with "powerful twin demons," and...
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The former Detective extends the pieces of papers out toward the off-panel immortal Irishman whose shadow is cast larger over her and the table compared to what we saw in Panel 4. You can see the names "Gog/Magog" on the paper, along with artist's rendering of the two wooden effigies in their previous rest in Guildhall, London.
TASHA [Cont., following the flow of her theory]: It stands to reason that the James Brighton Society have found a way to control them in time for New Year's Eve.
TASHA [interjecting, on top of Grem's thought in Panel 6; Bubble 2]: Or obliterate enough of it before telling 'em to stop, shortly becoming supreme warlord of a grateful and unknowing world.
Panel 6: Back to a shot of Grem at the same time the action of Panel 5's going on, standing in front of the table at that point. He looks down at the table and ponders the theory Tasha's given him. You can see in his face that he sees the logic behind the theory as he plans what to do next.
GREM [seeing her point]: The blood magic's already at their disposal. GREM [Cont., Bubble 2]: The kind of damage a pair of giants can do, controlled by evil windbags like them...you could destroy the entire planet within a manner of days. GREM [Bubble 3]: Precisely.
Page 16, 5 Panels- Limousine, Capitol Hill
Panel 1: Cut to a shot of the Grand Vizier sitting in the back of a limo at the same time all this action in the previous few pages has gone on. He's dressed in a crisp dark suit with a matching tie and a pin on his lapel that represents a logo of the James Brighton Society, seated next to a dossier lying next to him. You can see the lit buildings of the affluent part of the city they're driving in from the windows in the background.
GREM [Cont. caption]: And I think I know how they might pull off the second half of that plan. LORD SHAW [Off-Panel, to GV Jones]: Thank you for the invitation for this one-on-one, Mr. Jones.
Panel 2: We move to a shot of the man at the other end of the limo, Conservative LORD ARTHUR SHAW. A man in his early 50s in his tenth year in office representing Leicester South, dressed in an equally impeccable looking Savile Row suit. His dark hair lightly peppered with touches of white in an almost Reed Richards-like fashion.
LORD SHAW [Cont., with a devilish smile]: I've never seen an American New Year's celebration, especially since Churchill imposed, against the wishes of my colleagues, the non-commercial flight barrier over Britain. GV JONES [Off-Panel, to Lord Shaw]: My pleasure, Arthur...
Panel 3: Cut back to the Grand Vizier in a similar setting and layout to the top of the page. He gives Mr. Shaw a pleasant smile that coincides with the dialogue we saw in the previous panel. His left hand is seen pressed on the seat, stopped half an inch from touching the dossier of information that hasn't moved since Panel 1.
GV JONES [Cont.]: It's something I rarely do socially with those who aren't Society. But I figured I could make an exception for you, given that your grandfather is General Christopher Shaw, one of the greatest military minds in the Troia Nova.
Panel 4: Back to Mr. Shaw in a similar setting and layout to what we saw in Panel 2. He nods respectfully to the statement, giving him a half-grin. As was visible in that panel, you can see the back of the driver's head through the window along with the road in front of them and more of the buildings on both sides.
LORD SHAW: One of my great regrets was not being able to carry on grandpapa's legacy before they shut it down. GV JONES [Off-Panel]: I imagine he would be quite proud of the lot in life you've made for yourself in the House of Lords.
Panel 5: We move to a close-up of the Grand Vizier's face in the same setting we saw in Panel 3. The same smile that was on his face then has grown wider at this point, reveling in the double meaning behind the statement.
GV JONES [Cont.]: Especially with what I have in mind for you.
