James Brighton Society, Chapter 9: Pages 7-8
Page 7, 5 Panels- Hallway, Azeban's Floating Cabin, Washington D.C.
Panel 1: Action shot of the three of them walking down the hallway a few moments after the end of the previous page. Azeban and Tasha are in front with the good Officer in the middle of the view, taking in the weird scenery a few steps behind. You can see in the distance the door closing by itself as they walk and talk.
TASHA [shrugs, to Azeban]: Your guess is as good as mine. Wherever he is though, he's probably fine. He's immortal- I don't imagine anything can get to him. AZEBAN [correcting, to Tasha]: Outside of a bullet straight through his chest or brain. Or being left in the desert to bleed to death. Or being torn to bits in a massive fiery explosion-- TASHA [interjecting, Bubble 2]: I get your point...still stand by the hope though. AZEBAN [Bubble 2]: Just spitballing, my friend...the ID is still in your possession though, yes? Has "Kyle" tried to use the suit I made for Gremlin? TASHA [Bubble 3]: Yeah, I've got the ID for Gremlin stashed in my pocket. As for the suit...Kyle's a good six inches taller than Allen. They'd see through the ruse in a heartbeat. Besides, you don't strike me as someone who'd turn down extra business. AZEBAN [Bubble 3]: Of course not, I'd be happy to make a suit for your friend.
Panel 2: Cut to a close-up of the raccoon faced trickster god a second later. Her head is tilted up and toward the taller Ms. Randolph with a playful smirk on her face. You can see in the background a section of hallway along with the floor and a few doorways, one of which leads to some type of weird dimension.
AZEBAN [Cont.]: It would mean renegotiating the pay for this new suit though.
Panel 3: Cut to a close-up of Tasha's face raising a slightly curious eyebrow to the remark as she moves. You can see in the background a little more of the wall as well as a separate hallway that leads toward the kitchen area.
TASHA: Okay...you should know that I'm not rich--or anywhere close to it.
Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels that moves back to the same setting and layout as Panel 2. In Panel 4, the trickster Azeban heartily laughs at the statement, flashing more of her fanged smile to the human. In the next panel, moments later, she looks back toward Officer Reese in reference to the rest of her statement.
AZEBAN [Panel 4]: I can see. I'm more than settled in the matter of "material wealth" at the moment. AZEBAN [Cont., Panel 5]: I was thinking of a slightly different form of payment.
Page 8, 6 Panels- Laboratory, Azeban's Flying Cabin, Washington D.C.
Panel 1: We move the scene a minute later to Azeban's lab just as we left it after the last time we were there a few issues ago. Officer Reese is standing in front of a table in the center of the shot, nervously watching from side-to-side for the trickster god to come back into his sightline.
OFFICER REESE [nervously, to Azeban]: You--You want my blood? Like Dracula or something? AZEBAN [Off-Panel left, to Officer Reese]: Just a small amount, Mr. Reese. A half-liter to boost my personal reserves. OFFICER REESE [Bubble 2]: What are you gonna use it for?
Panel 2: Cut to a close-up of Azeban a few moments later, leaping up to the top of the table holding a needle that's larger than her head. She's dressed in a white lab coat with a slight tan sheen to it that comes out with the presence of the lights above her off-panel.
AZEBAN: Certainly not for sustenance (Stoker's vision of vampirism...has more than a few holes in it!). I prefer to use it for blood magic.
Panel 3: We move to a shot of Tasha standing on an opposite section of the lab, checking out some interesting golden urn with nondescript language written on the side of it. She looks over her shoulder toward the two of them, triggered by the words "Blood magic."
TASHA [looking for clarification, to Azeban]: You mean like the stuff the JBS is using to summon the Magog?
Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels that focuses back on Azeban. This time, standing next to Kyle who is off-panel right. In Panel 4, she takes the needle and plunges it into the man's neck as she speaks, taking in the blood that fills the glass canister by the time we reach Panel 5. You can see in both panels more artifacts in the background along with what appears to be the head of a small dragon.
AZEBAN [correcting, to Tasha; Panel 4]: Yes. But blood magic also had a litany of other uses, depending on what blood type you happen to use for that spell, like bodyswapping and chaos as well as your basic beautification spells. AZEBAN [Cont., Panel 5]: It draws top dollar amongst this nation's political and business elite, depending on the spell in question, though I'm hoping to branch out for pro-bono use in your country's Negro community.
Panel 6: We move to a shot of Kyle's face a few moments later. He presses his right hand up to his neck where the needle was moments ago. His gaze moves toward the left of the panel view, following the trickster god as she walks off with the chunk of his blood.
OFFICER REESE [mildly satisfied, to Azeban]: Okay. As long as you aren't gonna use it for some new kind of freaky blackface for rich white people.
