James Brighton Society, Chapter 9: Pages 9-10

Page 9, 5 Panels- Laboratory, Azeban's Floating Cabin, Washington D.C.

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that focuses on a chest of drawers moments later, away from the scene at the end of the previous page. In Panel 1, Azeban opens up one of the top cabinets and puts the vial of blood inside. In the next panel, she moves to open another drawer above it. Her eyes looking back out toward Mr. Reese to address him as she works.

AZEBAN [confused, Panel 1]: What do you mean? Are you concerned someone is gonna wear your face at some high society function somewhere, spouting racist nonsense? OFFICER REESE [Off-Panel, Panel 1]: Yeah, among other things... AZEBAN [Panel 1, Bubble 2]: That's now how blood magic works. Even if I did, I'd never let it be used in such a manner. Unless it's to screw around with the heads of Klan members or supporters of the Third Reich. AZEBAN [Cont. to Officer Reese, Panel 2]: Now, Mr. Reese- what kind of suit do you desire?

Panel 3: Cut back to Kyle in the same setting and layout that we saw at the end of the previous page. He lets go of his neck, revealing a band-aid that has magically appeared where the needle was placed, and starts to place the hand back down off-panel. There's a look of curiosity on his face as he speaks.

OFFICER REESE [to Azeban]: I...I guess something that makes me look like Timmie Rogers onstage. OFFICER REESE [Bubble 2, responding to Panel 4]: Th--Thanks...

Panel 4: We move back to the trickster god a moment later in the same setting and layout as the first two panels of the page, nodding approvingly at the choice. Her tiny claws picking up the large book from within the drawer that contains her collected spells.

AZEBAN [slight grin]: I've seen him in concert...very funny! A good choice, meatbag!

Panel 5: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout widens slightly to take in Azeban's full body, along with her spellbook which is now floating in the air and opened for her to see. You can see in her posture and the serious look on her face that she's about to get down to business in a matter of moments.

AZEBAN [Cont.]: Now, unless you desire to have large chunks of your hair burned off, I suggest joining your compatriot Natasha at the wall.

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of the good Officer looking on with confusion at that statement as a white glow starts to emerge from the left of the panel view to the right. At the same time, in the background, you can see Tasha behind him pulling the man back toward the wall as the trickster god rhythmically chants off-panel left.

OFFICER REESE [to Azeban]: Burned hair? How could--? TASHA [interjecting, to Officer Reese]: Trust me, amigo. You don't want to know!

Panel 2-5: A four-part set of panels that focuses squarely on Azeban in her work. You can see the energy emerging from the middle of the book and landing in a separate area next to her. With each panel, you can also see the suit slowly but surely take form and shape right up to Panel 5.

Panel 6: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout shifts toward a specific focus on Azeban who has a hold of the suit (a yellow number with matching pants, a white buttoned up shirt and a untied tie wrapped around the shirt collar) with both of her hands. The top of which droops out of view upstage of the shot, while the bottom falls out of sight where it hovers above the floor slightly. You can see the glow of her spellbook slightly to the left off-panel as it fades away.

AZEBAN [confident, to Officer Reese]: This should be appropriate to your body specifications...Officer.
