Jones St., Chapter 2: Pages 11-12

Page 11, 5 Panels- Jones St. Lit Crawl, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that are modeled around the same shot that ended the previous page. With each one, we follow Tara, whistling the melody from earlier, in a sort of montage sequence as he proceeds up the road to the first stop, which appears in the background- a bar called Tate's with an elegant looking interior. You can see the crowd of people steadily increasing with each panel.

TARA [thought bubble, Panel 1]: Remember the song...remember the exit... TARA [Cont., Panel 1]: Building a rocket Fighting a mummy TARA [Cont. thought bubble, Panel 2]: If things get to be too much, leave. TARA [Cont., Panel 2]: Or climbing up the Eiffel Tower Discovering something that doesn't exist TARA [Cont. thought bubble, Panel 3]: It gets too loud, obviously... TARA [Cont., Panel 3]: Or giving a monkey a showeaarrghh!....

Panel 4: Cut to a shot of Mr. Myers as he approaches the doorway to the bar, bombarded by a sea of music coming in from inside the establishment. He grimaces at the noise, but keeps his forward movement, slipping the zip drive into his left pocket along with his corresponding hand. You can see behind him other people passing him by without giving much of a second thought; the energy bar already at 90% at this point.

TARA [thought bubble]: Flarkin'...hate loud noise! TARA [thought bubble 2]: Just gotta relax...get back to the song.

Panel 5: Action shot of Tara a few moments, taking the first handful of steps inside the area. He looks around and tries to take in the atmosphere of the area while also taking deep breaths with each step that follows; the music from earlier playing on at the same loud volume as earlier. You can see a blur of the other people and architecture behind him in the background.

TARA [singing, thought bubble]: Surfing tidal waves Creating nanobots Or locating Frankenstein's brain

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of sixteen-year-old Tara traversing a similarly packed interior hall. He’s dressed in a nice basic looking black suit and tie with his puffy dark hair (a little more full than present day, but not by a great deal) as The Who's "I'm Free" plays on in the background. You can see the faces of some of his family in attendance, dressed in similarly somber attire. In terms of his energy bar, it’s at 75% at this point in time.

CAPTION: The Last Bookstore May 12, 2006 Tamara Myers’ Funeral RANDALL [Off-Panel, to Tara]: Son!

Panel 2: We move to a shot of a younger looking Randall seated near the front of a row of chairs, visible through a gap in seating, signaling for his son to join him. You can see the backs of a smattering of other family members seated in the rows behind and all around him at that moment, along with part of the front stage in the side background.

Panel 3: Cut to a shot a few moments later of the two of them sitting next to each other; the faces of the other family members that we saw the back of in the previous panel are visible here, stretching back to the entrance doors that are visible in the distance of the panel view.

RANDALL [caring, glances to his right toward Tara]: You feeling okay? TARA [silent nod] RANDALL [Bubble 2]: You sure? Ya know, it'd be perfectly fine if you weren't right… TARA [interjecting, Bubble 2]: I’m sure…I’m good. RANDALL [Bubble 3]: Okay. I'm just saying that crying right now would be a perfectly fitting emotion to have. TARA [Bubble 3]: Okay.

Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels that centers on the same setting and layout as the previous panel as well as the same background. In Panel 4, it’s mostly a shared silence as the music plays on; the two of them displaying a deep level of sadness equally. In the next panel, moments later, Tara looks around at the architecture of the store where the service is going on.

TARA [Cont., Panel 5]: It’s amazing the owners agreed to hold the ceremony here. RANDALL [nods misty-eyed, Panel 5]: Yeah. I told Candace and Lincoln about it a few months ago, when I had a good idea your mother wouldn't come through, and…they instantly fell in love with the idea. They closed early and gave us the plot for free. TARA [Panel 5, Bubble 2]: Was the choice of song part of the idea, too? RANDALL [Panel 5, Bubble 2]: Yes it was...that song was playing when we had our first kiss. RANDALL [caption, Panel 5]: Me and my friend Mitch went to L.A. shortly after graduating college to see The Who in '89 during their first reunion tour. That’s where I met Tanya.
