Jones St., Chapter 2: Pages 19-20

Page 19, 5 Panels- Street, Jones St. Lit Crawl, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: We move back to Carter in a full body type of shot, showing his jeans and the light gray hoodie that he's wearing on at this time. He chuckles and looks up to the sky incredulously in regards to Melanie's attitude as she walks away from the scene. You can see the backs and fronts of some of the other Crawl attendees in the background, laughing and enjoying themselves as this all goes on.

CARTER [to himself]: Unfuckingbelievable...This can't be happening.

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A second later, he looks down from the sky out toward Ms. Haynes direction, flashing a look of frustration and disbelief at the whole situation.

CARTER [Cont., to Melanie]: You're leaving because of some clothes?! You realize how crazy that makes you sound right now?

Panel 3-5: A three-part set of panels that moves back to Melanie a moment later, standing ten steps from him, showing her nice light blue top and jeans with a pair of high-tops on her feet. You can see a bag filled with a few comic books in her right hand. In Panel 3, he turns around to face Carter with one last burn his way. Then, in Panel 4, she turns back around and walks back in the direction of her car. In Panel 5, moments later, we see her disappear into a clump of the crowd

MELANIE [correcting, to Carter; Panel 3]: Count yourself lucky you got the first date, asswipe, especially after the overabundance of Axe and the "playful" ass grab in the parking lot. But I stuck on to see my friend play and...I wanted to buy some America. The clothes were just the final exclamation point on the night. CARTER [Off-Panel, angry; Panel 3]: Fuck you, you petty stupid bi--! MELANIE [interjecting with fabulous fire; Panel 4]: You too, buddy! Enjoy this ass while you can--Boi-byeee! TARA [Caption, Panel 5]: We move to a shot of the heroine triumphantly walking away, confident in her victory...

Page 20, 6 Panels- Tara's Room, above the Bookstore, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Tara in his room later that evening. He's seated on his bed over his portable notebook computer, looking down at the screen with his fingers hovering around the keys in Panel 1. He then a few beats later, in Panel 2, begins to erase what he had just written earlier in frustration. You can see in the background of both panels a little section of the walls and other things of his on an endtable and a well-organized bookcase near his bed. You can also hear the sound of the TV laying off-panel during the action of the page.

TARA [muttering to himself, Panel 2]: No, no....! That's not right either.

Panel 3: Action shot of Mr. Myers reaching down toward the computer in order to turn it off; his face exhibiting a degree of defeat after a period of writing that had preceded the move. Above him as before, you can see his energy bar calmer and more full than we had seen from him earlier in the chapter. You can also see the back of the notebook computer in the foreground along with his zip drive connected to it, as well as a poster of Ray Bradbury on the wall.

TARA [frustrated]: I'm getting nowhere tonight...Stupid writer's block!

Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The notebook is closed shut now, revealing the same basic outfit that he had worn earlier at the Lit Crawl. He glances over to the right in the direction of the bookcase that was visible in the background of Panel 2.

TARA [Cont.]: Time to snag the little buddy.

Panel 5: Cut to a shot of a section of the bookcase a minute later. We see a little more of the wall and the endtable from earlier, though it's mostly faint in the background compared to the binds of the books (all titles from Ray Bradbury). You can also see Tara's hand moving upstage toward the reader.

Panel 6: We move a few moments later to a shot of the book that he stops on- The Martian Chronicles. It's a big hardbound copy with the title in beautiful calligraphy, placed between I Sing The Body Electric and The October Country. We see his hand grabbing the middle of the book and beginning to pull it out from between its brethren.

TARA [Off-Panel]: There you are, you sweet writer block obliterating gem!
