Jones St., Chapter 3: Pages 1-2

Page 1, 5 Panels- Melanie's Apartment, The Next Morning

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that opens on Melanie seated on the couch in a comfy pair of pajamas, typing something up on her computer; the small kitchen visible behind her in the background. After a period of typing, in Panel 2, she's interrupted by the sound of hard thrashing guitar coming from the right of the panel view, glancing up at it for a brief moment.

Panel 3-4: A two-part set of panels that sets on the same setting and layout that we saw in the previous two. In Panel 3, she shrugs and continues typing away in the computer, trying to continue on with the work as before while the guitar continues playing. In Panel 4, moments later, Melanie sighs in frustration and starts to turn toward the right.

MELANIE [to Cassie, yawning; Panel 4]: Turn it down, Cass. At least till I got a copious amount of coffee in me.

Panel 5: Cut to a shot of Ms. Haynes a few seconds later, leaning against the top of the couch; her eyes looking over to the left in the direction of the guitar which continues playing as she speaks. You can see the TV behind her in the background playing MSNBC along with part of a window to the right of the background.

MELANIE [Cont.]: I'd rather not fall asleep drooling on my keyboard. Again.

CASSIE [Off-Panel, to Melanie]: Sorry 'bout that, budette...

Panel 1: We move to an action shot of Cassie moving through the hallway with a boundless energy to her. She's dressed in the same buttoned up shirt that she had as Mr. Croup during the concert in the previous issue with a pair of shorts; her hands free of the guitar that was placed back in her room a few seconds earlier.

CASSIE [Cont.]: Just had a great idea after the show for a new love song about zombies, and I wanted to get some of it down before it faded away.

Panel 2: Back to Melanie in the same type of setting and layout as the final panel of the previous page. She flashes an amazed and slightly disbelieving look at her friend as she appears in her line of sight at this point in the scene. You can see the TV footage behind her in the background shift toward a commercial as she speaks.

MELANIE [to Cassie]: Love song about zombies--very 2017. How much have you written?

Panel 3-4: Cut to Cassie as she emerges from the hallway over the course of a few moments with the kitchen appearing in partial view from the left of the panel in Panel 4. She looks over toward her friend with a chuckle in Panel 3, and starts to turn in the direction of the kitchen by the time we reach Panel 4.

CASSIE [to Melanie, confident; Panel 3]: Just the title and a few measures--"My Lil' Zombified Heart." CASSIE [Cont., Panel 4]: I actually came up with the name after my usual pre-show cat nap.

Panel 5: Back to Melanie a second later, turning back toward her work; her gaze looking over through her shoulder toward Cassie. You can see the TV continuing on to another commercial in the background as she speaks.

MELANIE [reminiscing, with a wide grin]: Ah, break room naps are the best! CASSIE [Off-Panel]: Damn skippy...!

Panel 6: Cut to Cassie in the kitchen with the refrigerator door opened. She looks over in her friend's direction via her periphery while she looks for the sight of breakfast food; most of her arm blocked by the pale ivory white of the appliance door which is primarily visible for the reader.

CASSIE [Cont.]: So, how was the date last night? Imagine it must've been good since you bolted Sif's before I could... MELANIE [Off-Panel, annoyed groan] CASSIE [Bubble 2]: Oh boy...
