Jones St., Chapter 3: Pages 5-6
Page 5, 5 Panels- Melanie's Apartment, Las Vegas NV
Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Ms. Haynes face a second later; her head turned over to the side and yelling out toward Cassie with a look of curiosity in her eyes. You can see the glare of TV behind her in the background along with part of the walls and the ceiling in the top of the panel view.
MELANIE [to Cassie]: Cass, you know where MadHouse Coffee is?
Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves back to her friend just after placing the milk back into the fridge. With the door just beginning to close to the right of the panel view in Panel 2, she reaches with her upstage hand to grab her phone from within her pocket. Then, in Panel 3, Cassie looks down at her phone's screen and starts to type away in search of the location.
CASSIE [in thought, to Melanie; Panel 2]: MadHouse? Hmm...rings a bell. CASSIE [Cont., Panel 3]: Let me Google it.
Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels that moves to a shot of Cassie's phone as she continues to search for the location. The primary layout of both panels is a Google Maps structure with the location (on W. Desert Inn Road) highlighted in Panel 5. You can see the dark black outline of the phone on the outside edges of each panel.
CASSIE [Off-Panel, Panel 5]: Got it! Way west of here...8470 W. Desert Inn Road.

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that starts out on the same setting and layout as Panel 3 of the previous page. She pauses for a moment with the phone out in the same position that we saw in that previous panel. In Panel 2, we move to a frontal shot of her placing the phone back on her right ear to answer the man properly; the kitchen faintly visible behind her in the background.
MELANIE [to herself, Panel 1]: MadHouse is fine...I'll be there at 1. MELANIE [to Mr. Crosby, Panel 2]: I can also bring some of my work if you... SOUND EFFECT [Panel 2]: CLICK! MELANIE [thought bubble, Panel 2]: Damn...almost plugged my app in! Worth a try though.
Panel 3: Cut back to Cassie at the table, looking up from her phone (which is currently back to a blog that she's reading at the moment) toward her friend. There's a thorough amount of intrigue in her eyes, wanting to know the details of the conversation. You can see a little of the window in the background with its limited mix of gray from the buildings and yellow from the morning sun.
CASSIE [to Melanie, with full mouth]: So...sounded promising, outside of the plug fail at the end.
Panel 4: Back to Melanie resuming her coding after the interruption of the phone call. You can see the streams of data popping up in the middle of the laptop screen underneath many lines of previous typed in data. In the background, above all that, you can see the TV still on the news as it was before.
MELANIE [dismissive, to Cassie]: A little. The money's decent, for a week's work; gives a little more cushion toward rent and maybe a vacation sometime before Christmas. Not enough to quit Best Buy. CASSIE [Off-Panel, with full mouth]: Still promising though.
Panel 5-6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few beats later, we see Ms. Haynes turn off the computer and start to close it by the time we reach Panel 6. It's here in Panel 6 that we see her start to lift off of the couch and turn around toward the direction of the kitchen. You can see, in the background of Panel 6, the TV had been changed to something on FXX.
CASSIE [Cont. Off-Panel, Panel 5]: So who was the guy on the phone? MELANIE [Panel 5]: Michael Crosby. One of the deep pockets from that schmoozy Tech innovator thing you helped get me into. CASSIE [Off-Panel; Panel 5, Bubble 2]: How high on the creep list is he- from 1 to 10? MELANIE [Panel 5, Bubble 2]: About a 6. But it's a freelance job, so hopefully I can duck the sexual creepiness. CASSIE [Off-Panel, Panel 6]: One can hope...He make anything worthwhile? MELANIE [shrugs, Panel 6]: Nothing big. It's not an interesting mobile game or an AI system, but it's not another stupid "pay for chores" app, so...
Panel 7: Action shot of Melanie's face a few moments later as she's standing next to the armrest of the couch. She puts together some type of optimistic half-grin in regards to the context of what's going on. You can see the brown of the walls and ceilings in the background as she speaks.
MELANIE [Cont.]: I can live with it!
