Jones St., Chapter 3: Pages 9-10
Page 9, 4 Panels- Melanie's Apartment, Las Vegas NV
Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that follows Melanie in a sort of montage of what happened in her day after Cassie leaves (a total of a few hours, to be precise). The first one consists of her eating breakfast, the second is her on the couch resuming her coding a time later, and in the third panel we see Melanie in her bedroom, standing in front of a chest of drawers near her bed. You can see a handful of documents on top of the chest o drawers which contain some kind of apartment listing.
MELANIE [Cont., narration caption; Panel 1]: The feeling that the universe doesn't want you to have anything more profound than a 40+ hour bullshit job working retail for a boss who has tried to hit on me on three separate occasions since I started there. MELANIE [narration caption, Panel 2]: Part of it comes with being a black woman in this country, especially with 45's tiny hands in charge. The other part though is simple, and growing with each day- the fear that... MELANIE [Cont. narration caption, Panel 3]: That I'm gonna be stuck in this town forever.
Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few beats later, she takes out a light green vibrator from the top drawer in the cabinet. She looks on with a smile, gripping the bottom of the device with every intention of turning it on soon (which we see with the movement of one of her fingers).
MELANIE [narration caption]: Hopefully this gig with Mr. Crosby will pad my resume a little more before going north. Till then, I just gotta keep my head down, keep getting money and continue searching. As for the Shit, well... MELANIE [narration caption 2]: There's one method that's worked well for beating it!
Page 10, 6 Panels- Bathroom, Myers' Place above the Bookstore
Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Tara taking a shower as all of this earlier action has taken place, focused squarely on the top half of his body. His energy bar (perched over his left shoulder) is currently at 100%. You can see the shampoo that had earlier been rubbed into his hair wash out amongst the rush of the water droplets hitting his body.
Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few beats later, as the shower continues going, his focus is pulled by the sound of his phone ringing off-panel. You can see the beginnings of an excited smile come across his face in anticipation for what said call might actually mean.
TARA [thought bubble]: Oh shnite....tell me that's them!
Panel 3-5: A three-part set of panels that moves the setting out away from the shower area into the middle of the bathroom. It consists of a series of action shots with Mr. Myers turning off the shower (Panel 3), stepping out onto the bathmat with a towel covering his private area (Panel 4) and, with towel wrapped around his waist, walking over to the phone lying near the sink just as it stops ringing (Panel 5).
Panel 6: Cut to a shot of Tara at the end of this rush, holding the phone up with the screen tilted up toward eye level reading what is seen on it. The excitement that he displayed at the top of the page has dimmed in regards to what he sees at that point, though it's more at mild disappointment than full depression. You can see the gray of the bathroom ceiling and wall in the background behind and atop his head.
TARA [to himself]: Blergg...maybe not a horrible one though.
