Jones St., Chapter 3: Pages 15-16
Page 15, 5 Panels- Parking Lot/Best Buy, Las Vegas NV
Panel 1: We move to a front shot of the parking spot after Melanie parked the car. We see the young woman stepping out of the car, with a messenger bag over her shoulder, and making her way over to the front headlights. You can see slightly the cracks emerge in the center of the light, similar to a circular dent on a window.
MELANIE [annoyed sigh]: Just what I needed...
Panel 2: Action shot of Ms. Haynes a few beats later over at the rear bumper of the car, checking it up against the side of the Jeep (which has a dent, but is less visibly damaged than her Toyota) that is visible to the left of the panel view; her ocus split on both areas. You can see the level of panic start to dissipate compared to what we saw in the previous panel, though the annoyance is still visible on her face.
MELANIE [Cont., trying to look on the bright side]: At least it's not too badly damaged. Last thing I need to deal with today is a fracked up car!
Panel 3: Cut to a shot of Melanie entering the sliding doors of the store minutes later; her image in profile in the shot between the two glass doors. You can see her trying to put the annoying gaffe behind her and get to business. In the background, you can also see other cars parked out in the lot in front of the store as well as a Mini Cooper that appears in view from left to right.
SOUND EFFECT [Off-Panel left]: DING!
Panel 4: In a transition shot from the previous panel, we see the interior of the store just as she steps inside; her back visible to the reader in a normal non-sexualized manner. You can see the DVD and CDs section of the store along with a couple of special displays for new Blu-Rays as well as big billboards for TVs and smart phones.
Panel 5: Cut to a front shot a second later showing Melanie walking over in the direction of the phones, completely ignoring the Greeter visible over her shoulder to the right of the panel view. He's dressed in the trademark Best Buy blue vest with a nametag pinned to the right of it (though we don't actually see the name in terms of the panel view).
GREETER [to Melanie, going through the motions]: Welcome to Best Buy...

Panel 1-3: We move to a series of action shots (2 per panel) minutes later of Melanie looking through the different phones available, connected from left to right in a way that denotes movement. You can see, in the bottom area of each panel, the phones that she examines in each shot. In Panels 2 and 3, you can see a Sales Associatedrifting behind her left shoulder ready to say something just as she grabs one of the phone boxes from underneath. All of this as the sound of pop music drifts over the top of each panel.
SALES ASSOCIATE [to Melanie, Panel 3]: Can I help you, miss?
MELANIE [startled, Panel 3]: GAH!
Panel 4: Cut to a close-up of Ms. Haynes face a second later, turned around to face the employee behind her. You can see by her body language a little twinge of tension that she tries to smooth out as she speaks. In the background, there is a section of the Apple logo along with a display for the iPhone 8.
MELANIE [thought bubble]: Never knew how annoying that could be...!
MELANIE [to the Sales Associate]: I'm here to get a new phone for my friend. Hers finally broke down this morning.
Panel 5: Back to the Sales Associate a second later with a bright smile that's been carved over years of work on the job. You can see the other phones on display in the area in the background, hazy compared to the cleaner focused display of the mid-30s aged woman in the center of the panel view.
SALES ASSOCIATE [pleasant]: Do you know what carrier she has?
Panel 6: Back to Melanie in the same setting and layout as Panel 4, along with the same background behind her as before. There isn't a great deal of thought that comes before she responds to the Sales Associate's question.
MELANIE: Sprint, I think. The same one with the free HBO for life offer...I'm guessing it doesn't apply to current customers, huh?
SALES ASSOCIATE [Off-Panel]: Nope, unfortunately. You have a copy of her phone bill?
MELANIE [Bubble 2]: Yeah I do. We share the same bill, so...
