Jones St., Chapter 3: Pages 23-24

Page 23, 4 Panels- Snackers, S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: We go back to the front counter of the store a few minutes later, slightly zoomed in. He looks down at the tall bottle of Lipton Brisk Iced tea she placed in front of the employee, folding the newspaper to the side to get back to work; his judgmental stare still evident on his face compared to Panel 4 of the previous page.

Panel 2: Cut to a front entrance going outside moments later as Melanie steps out of the store with her messenger bag over her shoulder, holding the plastic bottle in her left hand; her body illuminated by the glow of the April desert sun. You can see a sense of relief on her face as well as relief for what the future may hold.

MELANIE [to herself]: Now to head back home and let this weird ass day finally end. Maybe I squeeze in a few hours of coding before dinner, unless the link Crosby gives me craps...

Panel 3: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Just as she steps off the sidewalk and onto the pavement of the store lot, her focus is pulled to the right by the sound of a car coming to a hard stop on the street as she continues along back to her car.

MELANIE [Cont.]: ...out. MAN [Off-Panel]: GYAAHH!

Panel 4: We move to a side shot of an early 2000's Mini Cooper parked to the side of the road a handful of blocks away from Snackers. You can see a young man fitting the dimensions of Tara (though we don't see his face for sure) sitting in the driver's seat of the car staring out in front of the windshield.

MELANIE [Off-Panel caption]: "Poor bastard...hope he's alright!"

Panel 1: Side case-up on the person we saw at the end of the previous page minutes later, which we now realize is Tara. He's staring out in the distance locked in the middle of what appears to be a substantial panic attack, breathing in a frantic manner; his body now frozen after the bit of pacing from earlier with both of his hands tightly gripped on the steering wheel.

TARA: No, no...not the hell now!

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that starts out in the same setting and layout as the previous panel. He closes his eyes tightly; his breathing still as frantic and panicky as in Panel 1. Then, in Panel 3, he looks down in the direction of the cupholders next to him and reaching out to pick something up.

Panel 4: Cut to a shot of Mr. Myers holding his phone with both hands, typing away on the screen in a quick fashion. You can see the small backseat behind him in the background, along with the rearview mirror in the distance behind him.

Panel 5-7: A three-part set of panels that centers on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. In each panel, we see Tara looking down at the screen at the message coming to him. Over time, you can see his breathing start to calm down a little more till returning to a semblance of normalcy by the time we reach Panel 7.

TARA [relieved, looking up to the roof of the car; Panel 6]: There we go...t--thanks, Mama. TARA [Cont., Panel 7]: I'm ready!
