Jones St., Chapter 4: Pages 15-16

Page 15, 5 Panels- Melanie's Apartment, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: We move to a shot from the interior of the apartment moments later. Melanie has the box in her right hand, closing the door behind her with her free left hand. Off-panel from the main view, you can hear the sound (albeit faintly) of the bathroom door closing shut.

CASSIE [Off-Panel, to Melanie]: Who was at the door? MELANIE [coming up with her best answer to the question, to Cassie]: I think it was a delivery guy. CASSIE [Off-Panel, Bubble 2]: You think? MELANIE [Bubble 2]: They...They didn't stick around.

Panel 2: Cut to Cassie popping her head into view from the hallway, intrigued by the story somewhat; the top half of her body down to her shoulder is revealed to the reader, along with part of the towel which covers the rest of her body at that point in time. You can hear the sound of footsteps from Melanie off-panel as she speaks.

CASSIE: You sure it was a UPS guy then? Maybe it's a secret admirer sending you his jizz in a jar, or a massive 20-page missive about the beauty of your hair.

Panel 3: Back to Ms. Haynes glancing over in her friend's direction a few seconds later as she fades back over to her room out of view; part of the box now opened up. She shudders and shakes her head at the insinuation, flashing a queasy look on her face that's punctuated by squeezed eyes. You can see the TV in the background in the distance, turned off and placed on a somewhat small looking end table.

MELANIE: I'm sure of that...though with my romantic luck lately, the jizz jar wouldn't be a shock. But I'm pretty sure it's the gift I got you from that bookstore on Jones St.- EPB.

Panel 4-5: We stay on Melanie in Panel 4 a couple of seconds later, standing in front of a closet a few steps from where she last was in the previous panel. She opens the door with her free hand; her back turned to the reader. In Panel 5, this layout remains the same with the closet door now opened, filled with sweaters and dresses hung on hangers as well as musical equipment and the vacuum cleaner. Wit the books and notebooks out, we see the young woman start to place it on the upper shelf of the closet next to another smaller package; her other hand holds the now empty USPS box.

CASSIE [Off-Panel, Panel 4]: Present you say? MELANIE [retort, Panel 4]: Not giving you a hint, Cass. CASSIE [Off-Panel; Panel 4, Bubble 2]: Can't blame a girl for trying! MELANIE [Panel 4, Bubble 2]: Hahaha...! MELANIE [changing topics, Panel 5]: Now...what do you want for dinner?

Page 16, 4 Panels- Elevator/Ground Floor Lobby, Melanie's Apartment Building, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: Cut to the end of the hallway where the elevators are located in the right of the panel view; the back of Tara is visible in terms of the reader at this point as the metal doors start to slide open. You can see him clutching his zip drive, spinning it around in a clockwise fashion as he waits.

MELANIE [Cont., Off-Panel caption]: I had an itching to try out Carson Kitchen, though I could...

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that focuses squarely on the door moments later. In Panel 2, we see the doors closing in front of Tara who is inside, waiting to be taken down to the ground floor area. They open back up in Panel 3 a minute later after arriving at its destination; each panel providing a nice transition from closed to open state.

Panel 4: Action shot of him stepping out a few seconds later into the building lobby, which is filled with the sound of music coming off-panel. His phone happens to be ringing from the interior of his vest pocket, which pulls his attention slightly in its direction. You can see the power bar behind him is at 35%.
