Jones St., Chapter 4: Pages 21-22

Page 21, 4 Panels- Tara's Bedroom, Jones St., Las Vegas NV

Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that focuses on him standing in the same relative position as the end of the previous page; the layout closing in slightly on the top half of his body. In the first two panels, Tara has the notebook opens and is scanning what he's written for what he needs at that very moment. A handful of beats pass by before, in Panel 3, he grins upon finding what he's looking for.

TARA [thought bubble, Panel 3]: Ahh...yeah, that can work.

Panel 4: Action shot of Mr. Myers a few beats later after placing the notebook back to its proper place. He has his left hand underneath the laptop, and types with his right hand (albeit slowly). The layout of the scene widens slightly to take in the bed and his posters, which are partially visible in the background.

RANDALL [Off-Panel, to Tara]: Tara, dinner's ready! TARA [calling, to Randall]: In a minute, Dad...

Page 22, 6 Panels- Dinner Table, Myers' Apartment, Jones St., Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of a small dinner table 15 minutes later where the two men are seated eating plates of chicken and rice; Randall has a glass of wine while Tara has a can of Dr. Pepper, looking over in the direction of the TV which is playing off-panel. You can see the glare from the lighting fixture going from the top center of the panel view, illuminating the hard oak table and the food/drinks upon it.

CAPTION: 15 Minutes Later...

Panel 2: We move to a close-up of Randall a few beats later, swallowing the chunk of chicken that he was chewing on in the previous panel. He looks up from the plate in the direction of his son in the precursor to breaking the silence that was in play earlier. In the background, you can see part of the small kitchen as well as the gray-white wall near the table.

RANDALL [to Tara]: Any plans for Easter tomorrow?

Panel 3: Cut to Tara at the other side of the table a second later. He shakes his head at the question, taking a sip of the soda can. His eyes remain focus on the playing TV; the same type of background placed behind him, except for the part of the kitchen that was visible in Panel 2.

TARA [to Randall]: I was just thinking of working on some stuff for a contest that's due in a few weeks while I waited for the paper to send a copy of Imagine Only Wanting This...why?

Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Randall in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. In Panel 4, he takes his knife and carves up another (medium-sized) piece of the cooked chicken, looking over in Tara's direction. Then in Panel 5, with fork in hand, he puts it into his mouth as he speaks.

RANDALL [Panel 4]: While you were out, your abuela up in Henderson called. She invited the two of us over for a little Easter brunch. RANDALL [Cont. reassuring, Panel 5]: No stress. It'll be at that Italian place we went to last Christmas with your aunt and uncle, and your cousins from Phoenix- remember?

Panel 6: Back to Tara in the same setting/layout as Panel 3, along with the same background as that panel. For the first time, we see his focus move directly toward his father as he speaks, scooping a little bit of rice onto his fork; his brain piecing together the memory in question that Randall talked about in the previous panel.

TARA [intrigued]: Ohh. The one with the really yummy Fettuchini Alfredo, right? RANDALL [Off-Panel]: Mmm-hmmm...hopefully we can find a table without a lot of overwhelming audio, if it's really busy there.
