Jones St., Chapter 5: Pages 3-4
Page 3, 7 Panels- Randall's Car/Parking Lot, Jones St./The Marquis, Las Vegas/Henderson NV
Panel 1: Same setting/layout as Panel 5 of the previous page. Randall's focus shifts back on toward the front windshield while still addressing the conversation at hand. The background of the street changing at the same rate and direction as it was then.
RANDALL [intrigued, to Tara]: An admirer?
Panel 2: Back to Tara in the same setting and layout as the end of the previous page. He chuckles slightly, returning to the same game that has now returned to the phone after the necessary scrolling.
TARA [shakes his head, to Randall]: Probably just another ad saying "Happy Easter! ____ is 30% off this weekend!"
Panel 3: Back to Randall in the same setting/layout as Panel 1. He makes a turn in the car; his intrigue in the situation rises slightly in regards to a few points of time that pop up hearing his son's response.
RANDALL [playing Devil's advocate]: Could be something big- you never know!
Panel 4-5: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Tara in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. In Panel 4, it consists simply of the young man pausing the game for a moment to address his father in Panel 5, glancing in his direction with a curious yet knowing glare connected to the statement.
TARA [Panel 5]: You really think "The One" is gonna be on a dating website during Easter? Much as I'd love to believe it, that...sounds a little bit more like a Christmas thing.
Panel 6: Back to Randall in the same setting/layout as Panel 3. There's a brief pause that has tinged the off-panel moment between Tara's question and the action in this panel. After this moment of thought, he finally comes up with the best answer he can come up with right then and there.
RANDALL [chuckle]: You should know from one of those stories of yours, son...
Panel 7: Cut to a little whlie later at the parking lot to the Marquis. The Kia is seen pulling into the lot, turning to the right in the direction of an open parking spot available near the upper right section of the panel view. You can see, between the aforementioned space, the backs of a GMC pickup truck and a Tesla Roadster.
RANDALL [Cont. caption]: Life can be nicely weird sometimes!
Page 4, 6 Panels- The Marquis, Henderson NV
Panel 1: We move to the interior of the restaurant, particularly the lobby area a minute later. We see his abuela Olivia seated on one of the firm green couches, dressed in a nice looking light blue dress, listening to the music and waiting for their family to come by. You can see a little bit of the dining area behind her in the background.
Panel 2: Same setting as the previous panel. The layout focuses over toward a slight close-up on Olivia's face, glancing over in the direction of the front door. You can see a smile come over her as she notices her son-in-law come inside.
RANDALL [Off-Panel, excited]: Hey, abuela!
Panel 3-4: Cut to a side shot a few moments later where we see her and Randall embrace in a nice warm hug in the middle of the lobby. In Panel 4, the layout widens to take in Tara standing in the foreground of the shot, absorbing the hug from his abuela with a mixture of stiffness and loving warmth (a natural bug he has whenever someone hugs him); his father looking on in the background with a little smile.
Panel 5: Cut to a close-up shot of Randall's face a second later; the smile is still plastered firmly on his face, looking over in Olivia's direction with a great deal of love (even without the relation of blood). In the background to the right of the panel view is part of the restaurant's front door along with the face of someone just about to step inside.
RANDALL [to Tara]: How was the Lyft here?
Panel 6: Back to Ms. Reyes a few beats later, letting out a slight chuckle at the question before giving her response; the smile fading slightly to a still equally pleasant grin as she speaks. You can see the podium where the Host greets new patrons and starts to get them to their seats, along with one of the waiters passing by toward the kitchen area.
OLIVIA [to Randall, casual]: It was enjoyable for the most part. The driver's choice of music left something to be desired though...
