Jones St., Chapter 5: Pages 5-6

Page 5, 6 Panels- The Marquis, Henderson NV

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that focuses on the two of them over the course of a few moments, walking side-by-side a couple of steps toward the aforementioned podium that we saw in the background of the end of the previous page. Olivia stands to the left of the panel, and Randall to the right with Tara behind them in the middle. In the background behind them, you can see the rush of people coming in and out of the restaurant at the same time.

RANDALL [fishing for an answer, to Olivia; Panel 1]: Was it an EDM group or a cheesy pop group like ABBA? OLIVIA [nodding her head with a gaggy expression, Panel 1]: Cheesy pop...some group called Aqua. It was playing on that '90s channel on Sirius XM. OLIVIA [Cont. befuddled, to Randall; Panel 2]: How exactly did a decade that gave us Nirvana give us that forgettable trash is a mystery to me! RANDALL [shrugs, Panel 2]: One of the great mysteries of the universe indeed. Though I'm guessing it has something to do with "A rich old white person doing something stupid for more money." OLIVIA [fires back; Panel 2, Bubble 2]: Don't look now, hijo- but you're closing in on "rich old white person" territory. RANDALL [chuckle; Panel 2, Bubble 2]: Not the rich part...

Panel 3: Cut to a shot of the podium where we see the Hostess standing there a few seconds later as the two of them laugh off-panel. She's a young woman in her late teens, dressed in a black buttoned-up shirt with the pants covered by the brown wood podium; her hands touching the menus sitting on the menus.

HOSTESS [to the group, flashing a veteran courteous smile]: Welcome. Just the three of you today?

Panel 4: Back to the three of them on the other side in the same setting and layout as the top of the page. Randall nods in agreement to the question, adding something more to the statement on the whole. In the background, you can see Tara grimace ever so slightly as the noise starts to increase in tone from the dining area.

RANDALL [to the Hostess]: Yeah. Um...could we have a table that is in a quiet part of the restaurant?

Panel 5-6: A two-part set of panels that moves back to the Hostess in the same setting and layout as Panel 3. In Panel 5, there is a pause as she grabs three of the menus from the stack in front of her; her eyes looking over in Tara's direction. In Panel 6, moments later, she nods slightly as if she understands the rough answer to the question.

HOSTESS [to Randall, Panel 6]: Of course...right this way!

Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that starts out in the same setting and layout as Panel 5 of the previous page; Olivia and Randall visible side-by-side in the bottom of the panel view in Panel 1 talking until the dialogue drowns out by the time we reach the next panel. It's here in Panels 2 and 3 things slowly zoom in on Tara standing behind the two of them as they move over to their table, holding it together amongst the clangs and clumps and chatter of the dining area that swirl around him and the panel views.

OLIVIA [to Randall, Panel 1]: Is the store doing okay? RANDALL [to Olivia, Panel 1]: We're doing okay. OLIVIA [Panel 2]: You sure? I can call Tanya's sister Janet. She's a Stock Trader. I imagine she can... RANDALL [interjecting, Panel 2]: I'm sure, abuela. The last month's been good to us, especially with... TARA [thought bubble, Panel 3]: This conversation likely doesn't concern me at the moment...

Panel 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel, focused squarely on Tara a few moments later. He follows along the path led by the Hostess toward their table. Over his opposite shoulder, next to the energy bar (which is at 85%), you can see what appears to be a circle forming around the edge of his thought bubble.

TARA [Cont. thought bubble]: Time for a little daydreaming!

Panel 5-8: A four-part set of panels that centers on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. It's mostly silent as he makes his way, along with the off-panel Olivia and Randall, to their table. Over his opposite shoulder, you can see an image of a person standing in the middle of a road. The image becomes more and more clearer with each panel, slowly taking over the full view for the reader by the time we reach Panel 8.
