Jones St., Chapter 5: Pages 9-10
Page 9, 6 Panels- Break Room, Best Buy, Las Vegas NV
Panel 1: Close-up on the employee that we saw in the last panel of the previous page. He has lowered the newspaper down to a level that we end up seeing his middle-aged, bearded face. You can see the gray of the wall in the background behind him, along with the logo to the Las Vegas Review Journal in the bottom of the panel view.
EMPLOYEE [to Melanie, trying to be helpful]: They're pretty prevalent on those kinds. My cousin Arnold was on the Tinder a few years back, had to deal with all the...
Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Melanie in the same setting and layout as the second-to-last panel of the previous page. In Panel 2, she looks over at the Employee reacting with annoyance at the comment. Then in Panel 3, a second later, Melanie turns her attention back toward Jayson with a little more control in her answer to her friend.
MELANIE [to Employee, Panel 2]: Didn't ask you, Geno! MELANIE [to Jayson, Panel 3]: Nah, stalker maybe, but I doubt he's a bot. He speaks in complete sentences for one thing. There's also something else that's got me puzzled...
Panel 4: Cut to a shot a few moments later with Jayson standing behind the couch and to the left, looking over in Melanie's direction toward the phone screen to see what she wants to show him.
JAYSON [scanning the screen]: "All I'm looking for is someone who won't treat me as if I'm a precious crystal figurine just because of my..."
Panel 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Following the pause that punctuated the end of the previous panel, he glances over in his friend's direction with a suddenly quizzical look on his face. One that is shared by Melanie as she clicks the button on the side of her phone, setting it to its Lock Screen.
JAYSON [Cont., to Melanie]: What the hell is Aspergers? MELANIE [shrugs, starting to push herself up off the couch]: No idea. But why mention that unless you're looking for attention...
Panel 6: Cut to a close-up of Ms. Haynes' a couple of beats later, standing firmly on her feet looking over in Jayson's direction. You can see the top of the TV still playing the footage from Episode VII in the background as she speaks.
MELANIE [Cont., an idea pops in her head]: Or a Trump supporter trolling liberal women for his own nihilist chuckles.

Panel 1: We move back to a close-up of Jayson's face a few beats later, interjecting himself into the end of the statement with his own thought; his eyes following Melanie as he moves along the front of the couch. There's a degree of playfulness that comes through as he speaks.
JAYSON [heartily chuckle, to Melanie]: Seriously? I know it's probably a thing but...you think you'd be that snake bit?
Panel 2: Back to Melanie in mid-stride in front of the couch a second later. She chuckles slightly and gives a smirk to the comment, shaking her head. You can see another section of the wall in the background behind her, along with part of what appears to be a little potted plant near her feet area.
MELANIE [self-correcting, to Jayson]: Well, probably Red Pillers and MRA people would be closer to my luck. Still though, as fracked up as the Internet is, not worth ruling out.
Panel 3: We move to a shot of the two of them chatting with each other and taking a couple of steps away from the couch (partially visible in the right section of the panel view) toward the off-panel door. You can also see Geno the employee in the left of the panel view at the table near the wall, back to reading the newspaper at this point.
JAYSON [theorizing]: Fair point...on the flip side though, if he was a Red Pill asshole- he'd probably have given you some skeevy message complimenting your butt or something. MELANIE [shrug in agreement]: Yeah, I guess. If there was some way to know for sure.
Panel 4: Close-up on Jayson a moment later as the two of them approach the door. He tilts his head over to his friend's direction, giving her one bit of wisdom that pops into his head at that moment. You can see the wall in the background, illuminated by the glow of the lights above him off-panel.
JAYSON: I know a pretty surefire one. MELANIE [sighs, Off-Panel]: Ugh...yeah.
Panel 5: Cut to a shot of Melanie a moment later, grabbing hold of the doorknob leading them out. She glances over in the direction of her friend in that split second, knowing precisely what he means at that point. In the background behind her, you can see the same plant that was visible in Panel 2.
MELANIE [Cont.]: I was just hoping for a less sucky and/or awkward answer to pop up...
