Jones St., Chapter 5: Pages 13-14
Page 13, 5 Panels- The Marquis, Henderson NV
Panel 1: Cut back to Olivia at her side of the table a moment later; the layout widening out a little more to take in Randall who’s eating a nice looking sandwich with a glass of iced tea next to it, listening to the conversation as it’s been going on.
OLIVIA [Cont., to Tara]: I hope you don't think I'm too nitpicky. I’m just doing what your mother did in life- checking up on you, making sure you're in a good place.
Panel 2: Close-up on Ms. Sanchez a couple of beats later, placing a forkful of the salad she is eating at that moment into their mouth. You can see the genuine love and affection in the lines, just as much as was visible in the previous panel and the end of the previous page.
OLIVIA: How's your love life? You seeing anyone special lately?
Panel 3: Back to Tara a second later, nodding in agreement to the sentiment. The fork is back down, resting on the edge of the plate; a little smirk comes over the left side of his face as he speaks.
TARA [to Olivia]: Not yet, abuela.
Panel 4: Back to Olivia in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. She speaks through a mouth that is full with the clump of salad that she was about to eat at that particular panel. You can see behind her head a little section of table and waiter just walking behind at the same moment she’s speaking.
OLIVIA: Keep at it. If 45 can find three women to put up with him, I’m more than certain you can find one who will appreciate your sexuality, love of comic books, and…unique brain.
Panel 5: We move to an elevated shot of the table a second later, showing everyone at the table laughing at the joke; the plates of food in front of them visible and at different stages of being finished. You can see some of the light green floor of the dining room area to the left and upper left of the panel view.
TARA [narration caption]: A low bar, I know. But accurate...and inspiring too.

Panel 1-3: A three-part set of panels that consist of snapshots of the table over the course of a half-hour in time. In Panel 1, you can see the waiter that had been tending to them this time, standing between Olivia and Randall, handing the check hidden in a rectangular black plate. In Panel 2, it shifts forward to the lobby showing all three of them walking out; the elder family members chatting with each other, which continues into Panel 3 as they step out into the front of the restaurant.
RANDALL [to Olivia, Panel 1]: Let me take care of that, Mom. OLIVIA [to Randall, not having it; Panel 1]: This is my treat, Randall. Put that wallet away now. TARA [narration caption, Panel 1]: It's her superpower- a great strength and an unceasing kindness that's just as bright as the sun itself. Kinda have to be that to move here from Mexico City, endure the cries of stupid people in this country, and not want to beat every single one of them to dust. TARA [Cont. narration caption, Panel 2]: I can remember what she told me when she learned I was Asexual... TARA [narration caption, Panel 3]: "You never were one for a simple life...I may not understand Asexuality, but I love you to the very ends of the Earth, and I know you will find your happily ever after here."
Panel 4: As the adults chat off-panel with one another a few moments later, Tara stares off in the direction of the parking lot. The cloudy blue of the sky is visible behind his head in the background.
TARA [narration caption]: It's safe to say that my Abuela can absolutely beat your Abuela any day of the--!
Panel 5-6: A two-part set of panels that starts out in the same setting and layout as the previous panel. Tara looks down, prompted by the "DING!" sound that pops up from the bottom of the panel view. The layout widens to take in the rest of his body as, moments later, we see him with his phone looking down at the message on the screen. You can see a handful of cars parked in the background, visible behind his head and his shoulders.
