Jones St., Chapter 5: Pages 21-22

Page 21, 5 Panels- Myers' Apartment, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: Same setting/layout as the first panel of the previous page, focused squarely on Tara further reading the rest of the E-Mail on his phone. You can see the two comic books stacked on top of each other on the couch over his shoulder.

MELANIE [Cont., popping from the phone screen]: "What is Aspergers? Sorry if it's too obtrusive or anything. I've never met anyone with it, and I thought I'd ask instead of ya know...jam my foot in my mouth. I get plenty of that from past dates about the N-word lol (btw, in case you're curious--just don't say it, and you'll be fine!). Also--what's with the vest in your profile pic and that whole 'don't treat me like a crystal figurine' thing you talked about? I've came across too many creeps, and I'd rather not go down that route."

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that centers on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. In Panel 2, Tara looks up from the phone toward the screen in a brief moment of thought at the two questions. It carries on into Panel 3; his right hand shifting the phone down toward his lap as he thinks.

TARA [thought bubble, Panel 3]: Hmm...both fair questions.

Panel 4: Cut to a similar shot that we saw at the top of Chapter 4 when Tara was describing the interior of his brain. The warping of the shape and the fireworks are similar to what we saw then as well, along with the random green ray coming from off-panel left.

TARA [Cont. caption]: "The first one- How exactly do I explain all of this for a neurotypical..."

Panel 5: Cut to a shot back in the apartment of Tara's phone, showing the blank E-Mail compose screen that his phone hovers around at this point. The only thing that happens to be filled up is Melanie's username along with the Subject line "Re: Hey!"

TARA [Cont. caption]: "...into this little itty bitty format?"

Page 22, 6 Panels- Myers' Apartment, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: Same setting/layout as Panel 2 of the previous page. We see Tara still in that moment of contemplation, shifting his body ever so slightly in order to retain a level of comfort. You can see the couch and the comics in the background, just as it was before; the noise from the TV continuing on off-panel just as it had previously.

TARA [thought bubble]: The second part should be a little easier, though not by a whole lot. Still doesn't make the reply any easier to make...

Panel 2: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. The action of the scene has seemingly been frozen at this point with the appearance of a Fast Forward button on the lower left corner of the panel view. You can also see a little arrow appear underneath the button, clicking on i as he speaks.

CAPTION [above the FF button]: (Because silent thinking, although awesome as a life skill, doesn't make for great dramatic beats after awhile)...

Panel 3-5: A three-part set of panels that speeds the scene up, tracking Tara over the course of a half-hour as he moves from the couch into a standing position and then, by Panel 5, moving over to the bathroom; his hand firmly gripping the phone, placing it to his side. You can see the arrow pressed down on the FF button throughout each panel.

Panel 6: We move back to the normal flow of space-time with Tara mid-stride down a hallway in the direction of the bathroom; the FF button disappeared from view. You can see the light of inspiration come over his face a that moment; a framed family photograph visible on the wall behind him in the background.

TARA: I got it!
