Jones St., Chapter 6: Pages 1-2
Page 1, 5 Panels- Best Buy, Las Vegas NV, A Month and a Week Later
Panel 1: We open on a shot of Melanie's back as she organizing a display of Blu-Rays and DVDs, which exist in separate boxes in front of it. You can see the logo to "Get Out" near the top of the panel view, along with the cover art to the movie of those that she's already placed in. You can also see, by the glow of lights from the top of the store, that it's evening.
CAPTION: Best Buy 5/22/2017 (Or a Month and a Week Later)
Panel 2: Cut to a shot of Ms. Haynes from the side placing another Blu-ray copy of the film into the display a few moments later. It's here that you can see the exhaustion of the work day on her face as she works; the background behind her somewhat filled with people coming in and out this evening.
JAYSON [Off-Panel]: Hey...
Panel 3: We move to a close-up of Jayson, dressed in the same black buttoned up shirt that he wears underneath the standard issue blue vest (which he has gripped in his right hand). With his other hand, he points over to the left of the panel view in the direction of the off-panel doors.
JAYSON [Cont., to Melanie]: Sure you don't need help with the display? I don't need to be at the restaurant till 8. I'd be happy to--
Panel 4-5: Back to Melanie in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. Her body is crouched down toward the box, picking up a few copies of the Blu-rays and DVDs into both of her hands. In Panel 5, the young woman goes back to a standing position sorting what she got into another part of the display area.
MELANIE [interjecting, to Jayson; Panel 4]: I'm fine, Jay. You should get yourself pretty for Marcos. I'm almost done anyway. MELANIE [Cont., Panel 5]: Besides, I'm meeting the dating site friend after this for a bite and drinks.
Page 2, 6 Panels- Best Buy, Las Vegas NV
Panel 1: Cut to Jayson a second later in the same setting and layout as Panel 3 of the previous page. He chuckles slightly and nods, knowing precisely who it is Melanie's talking about; the vest in his hand changes from right to left as he speaks.
JAYSON [knowing, to Melanie]: Ah yes, the guy with the girl's name. The all-important first date...big night!
Panel 2-3: Cut back to Melanie, sorting through more of the DVD and Blu-Ray copies into the display as she speaks. In Panel 2, she shakes her head noticeably in response to the insinuation. In Panel 3, a few beats later, the young woman bends down to pick up the rest of the individual copies in the box, which are not that many at this point.
MELANIE [correcting, to Jayson; Panel 2]: It's not a date! We haven't even met in person, for fuck's sake... MELANIE [Cont., Panel 3]: This is just a first meet-up between friends. Nothing more, nothing less.
Panel 4: Back to Jayson in the same setting and layout as the top of the page. You can see the vest dangling by his side as he speaks; his body language softening slightly in regards to the explanation.
JAYSON: After a month of chatting? What took you guys so long?
Panel 5: Back to Melanie in the same layout as Panel 2. She chuckles louder at the insinuation, placing the next handful of "Get Out" DVD and Blu-Ray copies in the proper place on the display. You can see a slight grin form over her face as she speaks.
MELANIE: We've tried all month to find a day. Actually had to cancel a couple of times because one or the other were busy with work. Tonight was the first time our schedules didn't suck horribly.
Panel 6: Back to Jayson in the same setting and layout as Panel 4. He shrugs calmly at the explanation, satisfied over what he heard. He puts the vest over his right shoulder, ready to finally head out the door home; the legs already moving toward the left of the panel view which signify the same exit feeling.
JAYSON: Well, best of luck homegirl. Fill me in on the juicy details, good or bad...
