Jones St., Chapter 6: Pages 11-12

Page 11, 6 Panels- Tate's, Jones St., Las Vegas NV

Panel 1-2: A two-part set of panels that focus on the same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. In Panel 1, the two of them are in the same positions as before, examining the menu for what they want to choose; Tara flips one of the pages in her menu. In Panel 2, a second later, he looks up to Melanie who's still reading at this point.

TARA [to Melanie, Panel 1]: So, umm... TARA [thought bubble, Panel 1]: Simple question. Simple question. Simple question... TARA [Panel 2]: How's your day been?

Panel 3: Cut to a close-up of Melanie a few beats later. She looks up from the menu toward Tara's direction for a brief moment; her eyes and the top half of her face visible in the panel view. You can see in the background some of the other tables nearby with people seated/chatting in them.

MELANIE [shrugs, to Tara]: It was alright, for waking up at 7 in the morning, opening up the store and working for 9 straight hours... MELANIE [thought bubble]: Weird opening question. But normal at least...there's that. MELANIE [Bubble 2]: How about you? TARA [Off-Panel]: It was okay. Nothing special or anything...

Panel 4: Cut to Tara at the other side of the table, reading the menu a second later. It's tilted down in such a way that we see more of his face and neck in the panel view, which shows a great deal of sympathy for what she went through.

TARA [Cont.]: My sympathies to you though--I've never done a 5 hour+ shift before.

Panel 5: Back to Melanie in the same setting/layout as Panel 3, along with the same background. She lets out a slight guffaw at the statement, closing the menu and beginning to lower it down on the table as she speaks.

MELANIE [surprised]: Really? Was it like an, uh...an Aspie thing?

Panel 6: Back to Tara in the same setting and layout as Panel 4. He doesn't laugh as a result of the comment; his right hand flipping one of the pages halfway, while he glances over at the bottom of the next page as he speaks.

TARA [slight nod]: Basically, yeah. To be precise, it's--it's trying to find the perfect point before my brain not to short circuit/explode while dealing with a customer. Which, me and my parents found out, is roughly 5 hours.

Panel 1: Back to Melanie in the same setting and layout that we saw in Panel 5 of the previous page. There's a look of mild sheepishness at the prior comment, glancing down to the table; her hands are placed on top of the closed menu that is lying on the table just in front as she speaks.

MELANIE [mildly embarrassed, to Tara]: Oh right...sorry if the "Aspie thing" line came off as insulting--

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Tara where we last left him in the last panel of the previous page. In Panel 2, the young man replies with a considerably open and empathetic tone of body language as he speaks. In Panel 3, a few beats later, he glances over to the left at the waiter's arrival.

TARA [to Melanie, interjecting; Panel 2]: It's okay, it takes a while for people who know me to get comfortable about my condition. TARA [Cont., Panel 3]: I'll tell you if it gets into insulting territory. WAITER [Off-Panel, Panel 3]: Hello there...!

Panel 4: Cut to a shot of a pleasantly chipper waiter with dark hair and glasses standing in front of the table, holding a little notepad in his right hand. You can see a little glint of light bounce off the right lense as he speaks.

WAITER [Cont., to Tara and Melanie]: What can I get you two?

Panel 5: We move to a shot of Melanie a second later. Her eyes look up toward the waiter, who is partially visible in the upper right section of the panel view; her hands grab the edges of the menu, picking it up off the table as she speaks.

MELANIE [to the Waiter]: I'll have a Tuna Melt. WAITER [to Melanie]: Excellent...You want the Soup or Salad with that? MELANIE [Bubble 2]: Soup. WAITER [Bubble 2]: Okay...

Panel 6: Cut to Tara in a side shot from the other side of the table. He looks up around the waiter's midsection, pushing his menu over to the man as he speaks. As was the case in the previous panel, you can see part of the waiter as he writes it all down. The lone difference being that he's visible in the upper left corner of the panel view rather than the upper right.

WAITER [Cont., to Tara]: And you, sir? TARA [succinctly, to Waiter]: Cheeseburger, medium rare, french fries. Oh, and a Diet Dr. Pepper. WAITER [taken aback, Bubble 2]: ...O--Okay. I'll be back in a jiffy.
