Jones St., Chapter 7: Pages 13-14

Page 13, 6 Panels- EPB Bookstore, Jones St., Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Randall’s office across from the store minutes later. He peaks his head, along with the top half of his body, out to the scene at the register; his mind just beginning to wrap around just what had happened. You can see parts of the sides of bookcases on both sides of the panel view.

Panel 2: We move to a close-up on the father’s face a few moments later, filled with a great deal of anxiety and fear upon hearing the sound of crying and tapping coming from off-panel right. There’s also a “BUZZ!” sound that filters on top of the sounds from Tara at the same moment in time.

RANDALL [yelling scared]: TARA!

Panel 3: Cut to an aerial shot of Tara as this all goes on, lying flat on his face behind the register, crying as was the case in Panel 2. As for the tapping, you can see that it’s emanating from his USB stick on top of the footsteps from his dad coming to the scene; the energy bar complete gone, replaced only by the words “MELTDOWN- RECHARGE IN PROGRESS.” The buzzing that was evident in the previous panel has connected on to this one, overpowering much of the dialogue going on around him.

RANDALL [Off-Panel himself]: I’m sorry everyone, we’re gonna have to close early while we… TARA [narration caption]: Stupid, stupid man!

Panel 4-5: Action shot ground below of Randall behind the register, just beginning to sit just next to his son in order to wait out the meltdown to its completion. In Panel 5, he reaches over and sympathetically pats him on the back once the sobbing starts to subside; his eyes showing a level of calm and compassion that comes with years of dealing with situations like this. As was the case earlier, the buzzing overtakes any type of dialogue Randall may have been saying at this point.

TARA [Cont. narration caption, Panel 4]: I felt something was off after lunch, dealing with all of those touristy people. I should’ve just told Dad about it and ask for a break…stupid stubborness! TARA [narration caption, Panel 5]: C’est la vie, I guess…

Panel 6: Cut to a close-up of Tara’s face at this point; his eyes thoroughly reddened with the amount of tears that he had shed earlier, along with patches of sweat coming from the enterprise as a whole.

TARA [Cont. narration caption]: It’s not like it's the first time it's happened, or the last one for that matter. Would’ve been nice for it to happen while I was off the clock. Thankfully, there's the perfect salve for times like this. TARA [struggling, to Randall]: My phone...

Panel 1: We move back to Randall in the same relative position on the floor we saw him in at the end of the previous page. He tilts his head forward toward his son, who also remains in the same place he was in at the end of Page 13 (visible partially in the bottom of the panel view). You can also see the light brown of the wall behind the register in the background.

RANDALL [clarification, to Tara]: What was that, son? TARA [to Randall]: My phone.

Panel 2: Cut to Tara in the same setting and layout as the last panel of the previous page. He glances over to his right, in the direction where he thinks his father is seated. You can see the redness in his eyes is slightly less prevalent in his eyes, though still dominantly red as a result of the tears.

TARA [Cont.]: It's behind the register. Get it for me.

Panel 3-4: A two-part set of panels that comprises a series of action shots of Randall reaching out in Panel 3 to grab the phone that is right where Tara said it'd be. In Panel 4, we see him returning to the same seated position that he was in earlier. You can see, in the bottom of each panel, the back of the young Mr. Myers shifting from left to right in Panel 4.

RANDALL [Panel 4]: Okay...

TARA [Panel 4]: Once you open it, click on the Messages icon.

Panel 5: We move to a shot of Randall's face a few beats later; the background similar to the one visible from him in the previous page. He opens up the App in question, immediately recognizing precisely what his son was talking about. You can see a little glint of a teardrop start to form on his left eye.

TARA [Cont., Off-Panel]: In the bottom of the screen is-- RANDALL [interjecting, a little choking up]: I see it.
