Jones St., Chapter 7: Pages 19-20

Page 19, 6 Panels- Flashbacks, Melanie's Apartment Building, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: We move to a flashback that night showing Tara's car moving down the street in the direction of her apartment. You can see the buzz of traffic moving in both directions, illuminated by a series of street lights (a few of which are visible in the course of the panel view).

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves to a section of street a few blocks away from the front entrance gate to her building. In Panel 2, you can see the front of his Mini Cooper come into view and then, in Panel 3, parking in that precise area.

Panel 4-6: A three-part set of panels that focuses on the two of them as they walk back to the front gate area; the traffic of the area moving at a fairly decent pace as they speak. There's a cordial sense of brightness and love between the two of them in each of the three panels, stopping by the time we reach Panel 6.

MELANIE [surprised, to Tara; Panel 4]: You've never seen David Bowie act? TARA [shaking his head, to Melanie; Panel 4]: Nope. MELANIE [Panel 4, Bubble 2]: Not even Labyrinth?! TARA [defensively, Panel 5]: My mom was more of a fan of his music than his movies, and...I was more of a bookworm, both of the comic and prose variety. I did enjoy that BBC documentary on his life, and by enjoy I mean...cry for what felt like days. MELANIE [interjecting, Panel 5]: Same... MELANIE [Cont., Panel 6]: ...We're here!

Page 20, 5 Panels- Outside Melanie's Apartment Building, Las Vegas NV

Panel 1: We move to a freeze-frame shot of Melanie and Tara standing at the front gate leading into Melanie's apartment building. It's the same one that we saw early on in the chapter back in Page 5.

CAPTION: This We Know Already...

Panel 2-3: A two-part set of panels that focus on the same setting/layout as the previous panel. In Panel 2, we see the two of them in the midst of an awkward pause as they figure out what to do next. In Panel 3, Melanie subtly invites him over to her place with a touch of flirty energy in her eyes.

CAPTION [Panel 2]: Here's The Rest After That (Featuring a Point That Tara is Just Beginning to Realize) MELANIE [to Tara, Panel 2]: My friend's up in Reno for a gig with her band. Won't be back for another week. MELANIE [Cont., Panel 3]: I have a copy of The Man Who Saved The World. We can start your education of actor Bowie with what I think is his masterpiece.

Panel 4: Cut to a close-up of Tara's face a few moments later, nervous and a little weary too. He glances over in Melanie's direction as well as to the side of her as he speaks. You can see part of the gate itself along with the sidewalk and the street corner in the background behind the young man.

TARA [yawning, to Melanie]: I'd love to normally, but I...I'm feeeling a bit drained energy wise. I also have to open the store up in the morning.

Panel 5: We move to a similar looking close-up on Ms. Haynes a few moments later. The news has seemingly deflated her previous attitude. Though addressing Tara, her eyes are already looking over in the direction of the off-panel keypad that'll get her inside. You can see the same type of street and sidewalk setting in the background that we saw in the previous panel, just on the opposite side and with the appearance of a street light in the distance.

MELANIE: Oh. Okay, that's...I understand. I have some freelance work I need to finish anyway. RANDALL [Off-Panel Caption]: Yeah, I've got an idea now.
