Jones St., Chapter 7: Pages 21-22
Page 21, 6 Panels- Myers' Apartment, Jones St., Las Vegas NV
Panel 1: Cut to a shot of Randall in the same seated position that we saw him in prior to the previous page's flashback layout. He straightens his body out in more of a relaxed position, showing the body language of someone who knows something (supported by a piece of working knowledge).
RANDALL [Cont., to Tara]: You haven't told her about the A-word.
Panel 2: Back to Tara looking over in his father's direction, flashing him a slightly puzzled look that's focused on the last chunk of the sentence. You can see the now half-full bottle of flavored water has shifted from the armrest down to his lap; the top half poking up into view in the bottom of the panel.
TARA [to Randall]: I...it's never really come up. I guess I've been waiting for the right time to tell her.
Panel 3-4: A two-part set of panels that focuses on the same setting/layout as Panel 1. He shifts slightly in his seat, knowing now that he needs to explain something to his boy. In Panel 4, moments later, he looks over toward the coffee table off-panel, reaching over to grab the remote that happens to be laying on there.
RANDALL [Panel 3]: Do you like her? TARA [Off-Panel, Panel 3]: Yeah, I really do. RANDALL [Panel 3, Bubble 2]: Enough that you could see yourself spending the rest of your life with? TARA [Off-Panel; Panel 3, Bubble 2]: Hopefully...yeah. RANDALL [Panel 4]: Then the time's already there, son.
Panel 5: Back to Tara in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. He nods his head quickly in regards to the question from his father in Panel 3; his gaze looking down to the floor in the first throes of realization.
RANDALL [Off-Panel]: If she's a keeper, you guys'll find a way to make it work.
Panel 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel, along with the same background as before. It consists mostly of an action shot of Tara lifting the Cascade Ice up to his lips to take another swig; his mind already churning and going to work as Randall's speaking.
RANDALL [Cont., Off-Panel]: If not, then...it wasn't meant to be.

Panel 1: We move to a shot of Melanie storming out of her boss' office minutes after we last left her earlier on in the chapter. She looks clearly angry by the result of her earlier conversation with him, though you don't see much of said boss through the crack of the door in the background.
MELANIE [narration caption]: "Staffing cuts...that's how he put it!"
Panel 2: Action shot of her storming out the adjoining hallway moments later into the main store front. There's the same level of anger and frustration that we saw on display in the previous panel.
MELANIE [Cont. narration caption]: "They needed to cut back due to a dip in online sales this quarter or some BS. They also said my sales numbers were consistently below average the past few months, which made me 'expendable' in his words. Even though Joanie's numbers are worse than mine and she's still there!"
Panel 3: Cut to a side shot of her minutes later, crossing through the DVD section toward the entrance doors. The rows of old and new DVDs and Blu-Rays are seen all around her, both in the walkway she's crossing through as well as the others toward the bottom of the panel view. You can see the flow of customers littered throughout the scene.
MELANIE [narration caption]: "Forget the fact that I'd been doing the job of three people for the last four years...whatever!"
Panel 4: Minutes pass by, and we see the young woman move through the multiple register stands toward the front entrance (which is visible partially to the left of the panel view). At this point, her vest has been taken off and is now slooped over her right shoulder as she walks. In the distance, you can see Jayson noticing her leaving.
MELANIE [narration caption]: "That's the last time my black ass is gonna work retail (hopefully, anyway). As Jay-Z said, 'On to the next one...'"
Panel 5-6: A two-part set of panels that comprise solely of a pair of facial close-ups that exist in the margins of Panel 4. In Panel 5, it's Jayson looking over sympathetically toward his exiting friend. And in Panel 6, it's Melanie responding.
JAYSON [psychic bubble, to Melanie; Panel 5]: Sorry you got canned...wanna tell me about it? MELANIE [psychic bubble, to Jayson; Panel 6]: Later, maybe. But right now, I'd rather just vent internally for a bit. JAYSON [psychic bubble 2; Panel 5]: Fair enough...we still on for the Jane the Virgin binge Saturday? MELANIE [psychic bubble 2; Panel 6]: You know it!
