Jones St., Chapter 7: Pages 23-24
Page 23, 5 Panels- Millennium Fandom Bar, Fremont Street, That Night
Panel 1: We cut to a shot of Melanie and Cassie sitting at the bar later that night, drinking to help forget the crappiness of the day as a whole while music plays on off-panel right. Cassie is drinking a Heineken, eating a bag of Cheetos lying in front of her on the bar counter, while Melanie is drinking an Irish Jackass.
MELANIE [after taking a long sip, relieved]: WOOOOO! MELANIE [Bubble 2]: Damn, did I need that! CASSIE [with a smirk, to Melanie]: Hell yeah...been too long since we've had a simple Girl's night out!
Panel 2: Slight close-up on Melanie's face a few beats later as she lowers the glass back down on the countertop. A little burp comes out of her mouth just before she speaks. You can see a little section of the crowd behind her in the background moving around and having a lovely time with one another.
MELANIE: Nothing like booze and sexy nerd boys to clean off the stench of getting canned after 8 years. CASSIE [Off-Panel]: True fucking that!
Panel 3: Cut to a side shot of Cassie with her right hand gripped on the base of the bottle, lifting it up in order to take another swig; her left hand is up on the counter, just a few inches away from the bowl as she speaks. You can see the far edge of the bar in the background, leading to the entrance doors between it and the dining area.
CASSIE [Cont.]: So, what are you gonna do next (after we tear this bar a new asshole, of course)? You thinking about signing up for unemployment? MELANIE [Off-Panel]: Maybe...not sure. CASSIE [Bubble 2]: I know there's your app- Hot Stuff... MELANIE [interjecting, Off-Panel; Bubble 2]: Hot Sauce! CASSIE [Bubble 3]: Hot Sauce- right! Maybe now's the time for the big move, hmm?
Panel 4-5: Back to Melanie in the same type of side shot that we saw Cassie from in the previous panel, taking in the same type of background layout that we saw with her friend (without the entrance door). She nods at the statement, glancing over to her upstage side in Panel 5 to try to flag down the bartender (who is visible up in Panel 5).
MELANIE [nods, Panel 4]: Maybe. There's a pretty nice place (for my price range) in Milpitas near the Great Mall and the new BART station that goes to Silicon Valley. I could lock it down now, but...I only got enough in savings for 3-4 months, so--don't know if it's worth it right now. Might be better to code freelance for now, make the run at the Milpitas place once I have a bit more saved up. CASSIE [Off-Panel, Panel 4]: Makes sense. You sure there isn't another part that might be influencing your thinking? MELANIE [ignoring the question; Panel 4, Bubble 2]: Oh, I'm too damn sober to wanna answer that, budette. Tonight is only for two things- good booze, and a shiteton of food. MELANIE [to the Bartender, Panel 5]: Hey--Hey, Bartender!

Panel 1-2: Cut to an over-the-shoulder back of the Bartender a second later in Panel 1, looking over in Melanie's direction and listening to her order. She's visible at the bar in the upper center of the shot, with Cassie to the left of her chugging her Guinness as Melanie's speaking. In Panel 2, just after the drink, Cassie remarks with a hearty chuckle chiming in to the conversation.
MELANIE [Cont., Panel 1]: I'll have another Irish Jackass, and a plate of nachos flooded in gloriously spicy chili. BARTENDER [to Melanie, Panel 1]: We don't serve chili nachos. We do serve chili fries though... MELANIE [wide smile, Panel 2]: That works too! CASSIE [excited, Panel 2]: FUCKKK YAAASSS! Wubba Lubba Dub DUBBBB!!
Panel 3: We move to the same type of profile shot of Cassie and Melanie a minute later that we saw at the top of the previous page. The difference here is that Cassie leans over in her friend's direction, tapping her on the shoulder with her right hand; her left one grabbing hold of the base of the half-eaten Cheetos bag to slip it back inside.
CASSIE [to Melanie]: I'm gonna take a piss, and maybe a run at that cute Poe Dameron we saw when we walked in. MELANIE [nods, to Cassie]: Cool, I'll text you once the fries are here, which you can also double as an excuse to leave in case he's dull as hell. CASSIE [Bubble 2]: Nice...better not eat all of 'em before I get back! MELANIE [Bubble 2]: Ha, I won't!
Panel 4-6: A three-part set of panels that focuses on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. In Panel 4, it's primarily an action shot of Cassie walking out of the scene up and to the left. She fades out of view by the time we reach Panel 5, leaving Melanie alone to take another swig from the glass of booze. A minute passes by when, in Panel 6, we hear the sound of a phone ringing from bottom right in the direction of her messenger bag (which has been lying on the ground off-panel this whole time).
