Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 1: Pages 7-8

PAGE 7

INT. FLIGHT 887 TO LOS ANGELES- 2005

PANEL 1: Cut to a similar looking shot as the last panel of the previous page, though taking place back in the past as was the case at the start of the chapter. This time, when Adam was 16 years old on his first airplane flight; his hands gripping the armrests in the same way that we saw at the end of Page 6.

CAPTION: Southwest Flight 887 from San Francisco to Los Angeles July 2005 (aka Adam's first trip on an airplane) ADAM [thought bubble]: AGHHHAHHH! RICHARD [Off-Panel left]: Son...Son!

PANEL 2: We widen out the shot to take in Adam's dad, Richard, who happens to be sitting next to the young boy on this row of seats. He reaches out with his left hand and touches his son on the corresponding right shoulder in an empathetic and caring manner. To the left of the panel view, you can see the walkway to the Southwest Airlines plane that they're on at that moment.

RICHARD [Cont., to Adam]: It's okay...it's almost over.

PANEL 3-4: A two-part set of panels, from Adam's POV, of the other rows of the plane moving down to the cockpit. In Panel 3, the view is subsequently tilted up in a 135 degree angle as it rises up the last section of distance before reaching cruising altitude by the time we reach Panel 4.

RICHARD [Off-Panel, Panel 3]: Just deep breath in...and out! In...and out! In... RICHARD [Cont. Off-Panel, Panel 4]: and out!

PANEL 5: Back to a shot of the young Adam in the same setting and layout as the top of the page. He starts to lessen the iron grip on the two armrests, opening his eyes again for the first time as the plane straightens out again.

RICHARD [Off-Panel]: Alright...there you go! Are you okay? ADAM [single nod]: Mmm-hmm...

PANEL 6: We shift to a shot of his sister AMANDA, the same age as he is at this time, seated closest to the window as all of this goes on. She's got curly dark hair put together in a ponytail, green eyes, and is wearing a Giants T-shirt and a pair of headphones she uses to listen to music on her iPod. You can see the blue sky in the window to the right of her, along with some clouds that happen to pass by the plane at the same time.

AMANDA [to Richard, holding the right earbud out of her ear as she speaks]: Hey Dad, when do they wheel out the food?

PAGE 8

PANEL 1: Cut to a side shot of Richard who's seated closest to the plane's aisle. He tilts his head over in his daughter's direction. As this goes on, you can see someone in a business suit reading a newspaper across from them along with the other window showing the same sunny locale that we saw at the end of the previous page.

RICHARD [patiently, to Amanda]: I'm not sure, probably another 10 minutes or so. But it wouldn't surprise me if it's longer, or if they don't come at all.

PANEL 2: Back to Amanda in the same setting and layout as the last panel of the previous page. She drops the earbud, leaving it to tangle below her right ear like an unattached earring; a look of curiosity painted on her face which is tilted, like that aforementioned panel, toward her father's direction.

AMANDA [to Richard]: Why's that?

PANEL 3: Back to Richard in the same setting and layout as Panel 1. He shrugs somewhat as he speaks with the knowledge of someone who has been through things like this a lot in his 50+ years of life. As for the businessman from Panel 1, we see him changing from one page to another in the same reading pose as before.

RICHARD: Flight's only a little over hour and a half, sweetie. Not entirely out of the question that they'd just leave it to pretzels, peanuts, and Diet Coke.

PANEL 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A beat later, he leans back into his chair staring at the magazines and the tray table in front of him as he speaks. The scenery and the businessman, meanwhile, remain in roughly the same position and action that we saw in the previous panel.

RICHARD [Cont.]: Speaking of which, if they come, remind me to stash a bag for Thomas. You know how he loves a good pretzel. AMANDA [Off-Panel]: Okay, Dad.

PANEL 5-6: A two-part set of panels that moves back to a shot of Adam. In Panel 5, he's much more calmer and ready to relax for the remainder of the flight. In Panel 6, minutes later, the young man glances down upon noticing something missing from his general area.

ADAM [to himself, suddenly panicked; Panel 6]: No. No no no no! How the hells could I have...?
