Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 1: Pages 9-10
PAGE 9
PANEL 1: Back to Richard in the same setting and layout as Panel 4 of the previous page. A couple of moments have passed by since the end of Page 8, and we see the elder Mr. de Connick watching with a little bit of concern as his son searches frantically next to him.
RICHARD [worried, to Adam]: Wha--What is it? ADAM [Off-Panel]: Leo! I...
PANEL 2: Action shot back to Adam in the same setting and layout as the last panel of the previous page. He's still in the middle of his search through his shorts pockets, and the pockets of the backpack that he's brought up from underneath the seat.
ADAM [Cont., believing]: I swear I packed it before we left for the airport.
PANEL 3: Cut back to Richard who turns his attention back to the little pouch of literature and in-flight magazines off-panel. As he speaks, you can hear the sound of tiny wheels emanating from the drinks cart that's coming from off-panel right.
RICHARD [reassuringly]: Maybe you left it back home, son. We were in a rush to get out of the house, it's possible you left it on top of the cabinets.
PANEL 4-5: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Adam in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. In Panel 4, the young man gives a quick nod to his dad's comment as he moves the search over to the front pocket of his backpack, glancing down with single minded determination. Moments later, in Panel 5, the tension melts upon Adam's discovery of the mystery "Leo."
ADAM [shakes head emphatically, Panel 4]: No. My first time on an airplane- no way I'd have left my-- ADAM [grinning, Panel 5]: YESS!
PAGE 10
PANEL 1: Close-up on an old Leonardo figurine from the late '90s firmly gripped in his right hand. It's a little weathered, 10" in height, with one of the kitana sword in its tiny green right hand. Around the action figure is a glow, and a few musical notes that bookend the theme from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. You can see the arm emanating from the bottom of the panel view, and the tops of the seats behind them (albeit faintly) in the background.
CAPTION [above the action figure]: "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Heroes in a Half Shell- Turtle Power!"
PANEL 2: Cut to Amanda a few beats later, glancing in her brother's direction with a teenage level eye roll at the geekery displayed. Her primary glance is focused toward her iPod, changing songs without looking as she speaks.
AMANDA [to Adam]: Not sure how that stupid old toy helps you keep calm.
PANEL 3: Back to Adam in the same setting and layout as the last panel of the previous page. He glances over to the right at his sister; the backpack now placed back down under the chair at his feet. In his right hand, resting on the corresponding right side of his lap, you can see the figurine standing on his feet as he speaks. As this goes on, you can hear indiscriminate chatter from the dad and the flight attendant, separated by two speech bubbles of squiggles.
ADAM [to Amanda, defensive]: This isn't just some toy! I bought at the first Golden Gate Comic-Con I went to when I was 9. Remember that, Dad? RICHARD [Off-Panel]: I think that may have been with Owen or Jan, 'cause I was out of town then. ADAM [Bubble 2]: Oh yeah...
PANEL 4-5: A two-part set of panels that both focus on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. In Panel 4, we see the young man raise the plastic ninja turtle up to his chest lovingly as he speaks. Then, in the next panel, his attention shifts to the left side upon hearing the flight attendant.
ADAM [Cont. with loving reverence, Panel 4]: Anyway, it's been with me ever since through thick and thin. FLIGHT ATTENDANT [Off-Panel, Panel 4]: And you sir? ADAM [Panel 4, Bubble 2]: I don't care how old I get or how crazy the world gets. I make sure it's always with me... FLIGHT ATTENDANT [Off-Panel; Panel 4, Bubble 2]: Sir?
