Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 2: Pages 9-10

PAGE 9

PANEL 1: Cut to an action shot of Mr. de Connick leaving the Baggage Claim and heading to the right to Currency Translation; the messenger bag over his shoulder, and his right hand gripping the metal roller suitcase. You can see a few people walking past him in both directions, one of which (a young woman) is seen walking along with her own energy force field.

CURRENCY TRANSLATION WORKER [Off-Panel caption, to Adam]: Whoadamn, this is a relic! I didn't even know places still took cards like this. ADAM [Off-Panel caption 2]: Oh...does that mean it won't work? CURRENCY TRANSLATION WORKER [Off-Panel caption 3]: No, I can make it work.

INT. CURRENCY TRANSLATION, BONDS-JOBS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

PANEL 2: We move to a shot of the worker inside the Currency Translation office, holding Adam's debit card in his right hand and examining it with the aid of what appears to be some type of smart spectacles.

WORKER [Cont.]: It'll take a little work to do it, but you'll still be able to use it tonight at a restaurant or to get groceries at gFoods. WORKER [Bubble 2]: Oh, you were in Tokyo? I haven't been there in awhile...did they finally finish building that Miyazaki statue in Shibuya Station?

PANEL 3: Back to Adam, standing on the other end of the desk that separates the two of them; his mind contemplating how to convincingly respond to that, along with keeping his anxiety down to manageable levels. You can hear, as he speaks, the tap of the action figure in his pocket which is designed to help on the latter.

ADAM [to Worker]: Oh good to know...I had some trouble with it in Tokyo, and it'd be nice to have it function well again. ADAM [Bubble 2]: Umm...I--

PANEL 4: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few seconds after the end of the statement, he continues on his train of thought with a little bit more confidence in what he's saying compared to Panel 3.

ADAM [Cont.]: I didn't really have much time to hang around that part of the city.

PANEL 5-6: A two-part set of panels that moves back to the Worker in the same setting and layout as Panel 2. In Panel 5, he glances over at the younger man's direction, contemplating the explanation for a moment. Then, in Panel 6, he nods and begins to turn around to work; his face showing a degree of empathy to Mr. de Connick's plight.

ADAM [Off-Panel, Panel 5]: 'Cause of...work and all that. WORKER [Panel 6]: Ah, totally understood.

PAGE 10

PANEL 1: Cut to a shot of the Worker moving to the back counter area, gathering his tools before starting work on the Translation process. You can see Adam standing on the other end of the front desk in the background, watching it all take place.

WORKER [making chit-chat, to Adam]: So...you live in the city? Or just vacationing here from the patchwork hell that is the rest of this country? ADAM [slight chuckle/nod, to Worker]: I live here. Over on, uh, Folsom Street. WORKER [Bubble 2]: Nice. Where do you work? ADAM [Bubble 2]: I'm a Film reporter over at the San Francisco Chronicle.

PANEL 2: We shift to a shot of the Worker solely a few moments later, looking over his shoulder back in the young man's direction with a slightly befuddled look sparked by the name at the end of the statement.

WORKER: "San Francisco Chronicle?" You mean the BayChron?

PANEL 3-4: A two-part set of panels that cuts to a single close-up on the young man's face. In Panel 3, he barely contains a groan emanating from his stomach upon hearing the confirmation of his worst fear's from earlier. Then, in Panel 4, Adam regains his composure again after a few more seconds and tries to change the subject.

ADAM [thought bubble, Panel 3]: "BayChron?" Must not...puke...in brain! ADAM [through gritted teeth, Panel 3]: Oh yeah--BayChron. ADAM [Cont., Panel 4]: You know if Golden Gate Comic Con's this weekend or next?

PANEL 5: Back to the Worker in the same setting/layout as Panel 2, turning his head back to the work at hand. You can see some of the equipment in front of him in the background, including a tablet touchscreen attached to the wall above the aforementioned electronic gear.

WORKER [shakes his head, back to Adam]: I think the unofficial "pre-launch" party's on Monday or Tuesday. WORKER [Bubble 2]: Yep yep. You're lucky you got back now...traffic's gonna be a ginormous pain in the ass in the city.

PANEL 6: Cut to a close-up of Adam's face a second later, noticeably confused by the statement. You can see a section of the entrance to the building in the background, along with a group of passengers walking past as he speaks.

ADAM: Really? ADAM [Bubble 2]: What do you mean? I--I always thought it's always in San Jose. WORKER [Off-Panel]: It hasn't been in San Jose since they built the new arena and the GGCC organizers stretched it out to a full-week thing.
