INT. LIVING ROOM, DE CONNICK HOUSE- Many Years Ago
PANEL 1: We cut to a shot of Adam (13) and Amanda (15) sitting on the couch, watching the credits to Back to the Future Part II on the TV. Amanda's wearing a Sharks T-Shirt and a pair of comfortable sweatpants while Adam is wearing a black t-shirt and shorts on the other end of the living room. You can see a few of the photos of their family on the wall in the background behind the couch.
AMANDA [confused, to Adam]: What do you mean? ADAM [explanatory, to Amanda]: Well, he was the one that came up with the idea for...whatever scheme he wanted Marty in on. AMANDA [Bubble 2]: Right...
PANEL 2: Slight close-up on the young Mr. de Connick's face a second later, continuing on on the train of thought that he was starting in the previous panel. You can see a few more photos on the wall, along with a long furry tail that happens to be crossing around the couch at the same moment he's speaking.
ADAM: But he's the only one who gets fired by Mr. Takashi, seemingly having spied on the whole conversation between the two of them. Which, it'd stand to reason, would include whatever scheme Needles was planning.
PANEL 3: We move to a still shot of Needles from the film in question as Adam continues his train of thought the rest of the way. You can see the outline of the TV the two kids were watching it from around the edges of the panel view.
ADAM [Cont., Off-Panel caption]: "Yet Takashi leaves without saying a single negative word to Needles."
PANEL 4: Back to Adam in the same setting as Panel 2; the layout widens out slightly to take in the presence of a long-haired tabby cat that has hopped up on the couch, looking for a place to sit while he's been speaking.
ADAM: It just...feels like a pretty big plot hole to me.
PANEL 5-6: A two-part set of panels that cuts back to Amanda in the same type of slight close-up design that was given to Adam back in Panel 2. In Panel 5, she nods at the fair point her little brother gave just then, mounting the comeback that comes into view in Panel 6. Also in Panel 6, from the right of the panel view, we see a speech bubble coming from their father set to join the scene.
AMANDA [to Adam, Panel 5]: Maybe. It could also be a statement on how sometimes jerky people get away with being jerks. ADAM [Off-Panel, Panel 5]: Don't really need a reminder of that... AMANDA [grinning, Panel 6]: Ain't that the truth! Personally, I"m more annoyed no one's made that self-fitting/self-drying coat a reality. Maybe Apple can get off their butts and make it happen- call it the iCoat. OWEN [Off-Panel, Panel 6]: Whatcha two talking about?
PAGE 22
PANEL 1: Same setting/layout as the last panel of the previous page. Amanda turns her attention over her shoulder a few beats later toward her Dad as he makes his way to the living room area.
AMANDA [to Thomas]: Just Needles' white guy privilege and Marty's glorious coat of my dreams.
PANEL 2: Cut to Thomas standing a few steps behind the couch, holding a big bucket of popcorn underneath his right arm. He's a man in his late-40s with a dark Dr. Strange-like goatee that is darker than the salt and pepper colored hair that is still proudly kept on his head.
OWEN [chuckle, to Amanda]: One of the great regrets of my generation- not making self-cleaning clothes a reality.
PANEL 3: Back to Ms. de Connick a few beats later, taken from behind the couch looking out. She grins a bit, flashing a playfully disbelieving look on her face as she speaks. You can see the tail of the tabby kitten that was snuggling up to Adam in the previous page move into view in the bottom of the panel, along with the TV in the background scrolling the last of the credits.
AMANDA [playfully]: I thought parachute pants and Members only jackets were the greatest regrets of your generation.
PANEL 4: Back to the elder Mr. de Connick as he stands between his two kids immediately behind the couch, shaking his head quickly at the statement. His hand starts to move slightly, placing the bottom of the popcorn bowl on the edge of the woodframe.
OWEN [correcting, equally playful]: Those aren't regrets, my dear. They're crimes of fashion (at least according to your father).
PANEL 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel, along with the same background. As he stretches out the bucket out of view toward the coffee table, he turns his gaze to the left where Adam happens to be sitting right now.
OWEN [Cont., to Adam]: Adam, you mind putting in the next film?
PANEL 6: Cut to an action shot of Adam, shuffling off his seat on the couch looking over in the direction of his dad; his feet are just beginning to touch the carpeted floor as he speaks. You can see part of the coffee table in the lower left corner of the panel view.
ADAM [curious, to Thomas]: Shouldn't we wait for Mom and other Dad to come?
