Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 3: Pages 17-18

PAGE 17

PANEL 1: Cut to a front facing shot of Ms. de Connick-Walsh a second later, leaning against the cushion of her seat. In the top right corner of the panel view, you can see a section of what appears to look like a desert wasteland save for a massive grow farm complex in the middle of it.

AMANDA [Cont., to Adam]: But it's not all perfect here either. Most everything between Stockton and Bakersfield's pretty much a big desert with boxes on it, not to mention the high ass rents here and in Sac (though it's getting incrementally better in L.A.). ADAM [Off-Panel]: Ah...

PANEL 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves to a side shot of the table in the same setting and layout as Panel 5 of the previous page. In Panel 2, there's a collective silence between the two as they finish up the last bits of scraps from their plates. In Panel 3, Adam turns his head back up to his sister with one last question in mind.

ADAM [Cont. nervous, to Amanda; Panel 3]: I...You don't have to say yes to this. But I'd be really grateful if you could, since I don't have an apartment anymore-- AMANDA [interjecting, Panel 3]: You don't need to ask, baby bro. You're family...

PANEL 4: Cut to a close-up of the elder woman once again; the setting and layout behind her similar to what we saw in Panel 1. You can see a sense of familial warmth and love in her eyes as she speaks.

AMANDA [Cont.]: You'll always have a home here, as long as you need.

PANEL 5-6: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Adam in a similar framed shot that his sister had in the previous panel. In Panel 5, he nods gratefully at the answer; his hand moving toward the glass of soda as he speaks. In Panel 6, a few beats later, the young man (with glass gripped) takes a sip of the drink in a pocket of silence.

ADAM [grateful, Panel 5]: Thanks, sis... ADAM [Off-Panel caption, Panel 6]: On a separate (and equally important) tangent- Most of my clothes I brought to Japan didn't make it through.

INT. SPARE ROOM, AMANDA'S HOUSE- An Hour Later

PANEL 1: Cut to Adam later that evening, looking over the room slowly and with a sense of reminiscence in his eyes. You can see posters of Back to the Future, Love Actually and The Philadelphia Story hanging on the walls behind him. Also, you can see part of the messenger bag and his lone carry-on from the plane.

ADAM [to himself]: Except for some knickknacks and a little bit of dirty laundry that got through in the carry-on, which...is pretty nice, till I can replenish my clothes at a thrift store.

PANEL 2: We move to a shot of the doorway a few moments later. The young man pokes his head out toward the hallway and over to his right where the bathroom is located. You can see small sections of the hallway on the sides of the panel view.

ADAM [to Amanda]: Hey sis, where did you leave all of the stuff from my apartment after my kinda funeral?

PANEL 3: Cut to Amanda in the bathroom, washing her hands while tilting her head over toward the doorway in order to answer her brother's question. She's dressed in a nice comfy pair of light blue pajamas with a pocket for her phone, which is playing "Starman" by David Bowie.

AMANDA [slightly elevated, to Adam]: A storage facility around Excelsior, I think. That is, before it got demolished and turned into a GR Surgery office.

PANEL 4: Back to Adam in the same setting and layout as Panel 1. The last part of the statement throws the young man for a little bit of a loop; his body turning, moving out of the doorway a few steps and turning fully in the direction of his sister.

ADAM [confused]: GR Surgery? AMANDA [Off-Panel]: Rich people shit to keep themselves young by tweaking some aspect of their genes. ADAM [Bubble 2]: Do I wanna ask how that works? AMANDA [Off-Panel, Bubble 2]: Not unless you wanna go to sleep with a headache and a deep distrust of humanity. ADAM [Bubble 3]: Right...

PANEL 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. More confused by the explanation than he was before, Mr. de Connick quickly tries to steer the conversation back to the main meaty point he wanted to have answered.

ADAM [Cont.]: Where did the stuff get moved to now? AMANDA [Off-Panel]: Not that far off...
