Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 4: Pages 19-20

PAGE 19

PANEL 1: Back to the Reporter in the same setting/layout as Panel 5 of the previous page. She turns her head back toward Mr. de Connick to properly answer his question, armed with the new bit of information.

REPORTER [Cont., to Adam]: BTW, dude- when you get there...take your shoes off before stepping inside his office.

INT. THE CUBE, BAYCHRON BUILDING- Minutes Later

PANEL 2: We cut to a shot of the aforementioned Po, a tall rotund black Tongan man with a proudly sizable afro, organizing and sorting an endless basket of news stories into a massive seemingly endless bookshelf, one of many that are also visible in the background behind him. Some of the stories that are seen in the panel include one about shooting massacres over water in Italy and Texas and one of a series about the struggles of three young women getting abortions in three states (OH, WV, and SC).

PANEL 3-4: A two-part set of panels that centers on the same setting and layout as the previous panel. In Panel 3, a few moments later, there's the sound of nervous muttering and footsteps coming from some nebulous place out of view. In Panel 4, Po tilts his head to the right, noticing the noise for the first time.

PO [curious, Panel 4]: Hmm...?

PANEL 5: Same setting/layout as the previous panel, moments later. He takes off the goggles and headphones, turning the scene back to his desk; his eyes looking around from side-to-side in search of the mysterious sound, which he hears more clearly at this point.

PO [to Taika]: Taika, someone waiting out front? TAIKA [Off-Panel computer voice, to Po]: I...think so. But I'm not sure if it's a visitor or a broken droid. PO [Bubble 2]: Why's that? TAIKA [Off-Panel, Bubble 2]: It's hard to get a bead on the visitor in question. They aren't standing in one place for one place, and they appear to be muttering something I'm unable to properly decipher.

PANEL 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. Po takes the helmet off, and places it on the desk to his right. He glances over to the same area of the panel view, thinking up an idea as he speaks.

PO: Initiate the "Hallo" protocol anyway. It should be able to scare whoever's out there to givea good look who it is. TAIKA [Off-Panel]: Sounds good, boss.

PAGE 20

PANEL 1-2: A two-part set of panels that moves back to the front desk area of Po's office moments after the end of Page 19. In Panel 1, we see Adam still muttering to himself, trying to psyche himself to take the last few steps forward to the office's front door. Then, in Panel 2, a beam descends from the top of the door and a holographic image of Taika Waiti appears, surprising the young man.

TAIKA [friendly, to Adam; Panel 2]: Hallo, Bruce! ADAM [startled, Panel 2]: GAH! TAIKA [Panel 2, Bubble 2]: Sorry if I scared ya...or if your name isn't Bruce. The latter doesn't happen often, given the lack of kids named Bruce either in San Francisco or in--in the whole world, really. Which seems strange if you think about it given that-- ADAM [interjecting; Panel 2, Bubble 2]: You...freakily look like Taika Waiti.

PANEL 3: We move to a slight close-up on the face of the holographic version of the director, looking over Mr. de Connick with a bright smile on his face. You can see the door to Po's office in the background, colored a light green emanating from the attached device that helps to make the holographic image in the first place.

TAIKA [Cont.]: By design from the guy you probably wanna see, after his favorite Oscar-winning director. But you can call me Taika. So, what brings ya down here for? I can see you don't work for the newspaper.

PANEL 4: Cut to a similar looking close-up of Adam's face reacting to the question with a firm shake of his head; his mind remembering the story he used earlier with the Reporter. You can see in the background a section of the hallway behind him as well as a corner to the left that leads to another hallway nearby.

ADAM [to Taika]: Correct, I--I don't. My cousin did though, in the Film section. I was hoping to get some of his old articles...somebody upstairs told me this is where the archive is. ADAM [Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 1]: Adam de Connick. ADAM [Bubble 3; reacting to Panel 5, Bubble 2]: 6-7 years. His last day was 20 years ago, give or take a few days.

PANEL 5: We move to a shot of Taika in the same setting as Panel 3, though with a wider layout that takes on the rest of his body. He has a stoic look on his face and with his body language, save for his smile which is still prominent here (albeit in a grin form in this panel).

TAIKA [reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 1]: What was your cousin's name? TAIKA [Bubble 2; reacting to Panel 4, Bubble 2]: When did Mr. de Connick work here? PO [Off-Panel]: Oh, I love the idioTweens!
