Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 5: Pages 1-2

PAGE 1

INT. DINING ROOM, AMANDA'S HOUSE- Morning

PANEL 1: We open on a shot of Adam sitting at the dining room table of the kitchen, reading the NewsTab and eating a bowl of cereal of some kind. You can see the glow of the sun shining from the curtains on the window behind him in the background.

ADAM [mid-chew, addressed to Amanda]: I didn't know you were a Frosted Flakes fan.

PANEL 2: Cut to Amanda standing near the counter in front of a coffee pot, which is busily cooking and churning its dark brown water into the pot. In the background, you can see one of the cabinet doors opened, revealing some bowls and plates to the reader.

AMANDA [explanatory, to Adam]: No, my daughter is. She only eats Frosted Flakes for breakfast whenever she comes by or during the holidays. It's not the type of Frosted Flakes you probably remember though. Thanks to the global natural grain shortage, they're mass produced in a lab and sent out to be formed into whatever food product's necessary.

PANEL 3-4: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Adam in the same setting and layout as Panel 1. In Panel 3, he smiles approvingly at the statement, looking up in his sister's direction from the tablet. A few seconds later, in Panel 4, the young man returns to the NewsTab and reads some more; his free right hand grabbing the spoon's handle.

ADAM [impressed, Panel 3]: Really? Could've fooled me, taste wise... ADAM [remarks, Panel 4]: Another mass shooting...white people doing stupid, racist things and being defended over it...sexist men getting exposed with zero consquences brought on 'em...ads for 3D-made guns and 3D-made body armor...Twitter's still the worst at controlling bigots, trolls and Russian hackers...Paul Rudd looking like he has the Fountain of Youth on a tap at home. You sure these are future headlines and not one of those "Headlines From When You Were Born" type deals? PANEL 5: Back to Amanda in the same setting and layout as Panel 2, along with the same background. She chuckles, glancing over off-panel to the left in the direction of the ceiling; her mind already knowing the next part of her brother's query before he speaks it.

AMANDA: You should see the Across the Red Nation section, if you want a big "Blast from the Past" situation. Or a reason to day drink. On the plus side though, they've found a new way to beat the scorching California heat.

PANEL 6: Cut to Adam in the same setting and layout as Panel 4; his hand now firmly off of the handle to his spoon, and touching the table. There's a look of disbelief mixed with curiosity as a result of what Amanda told him.

ADAM: A new kind of air conditioner? Sweet! AMANDA [Off-Panel]: It's not quite a new kind of A/C. But it's still pretty awesome.

INT. LIVING ROOM, AMANDA'S HOUSE

PANEL 1-2: A two-part set of panels that moves the action to Amanda's living room. In Panel 1, we see Adam standing underneath what seems like a perfectly innocent ceiling fan that is visible in the top of the panel view. You can see Amanda standing a short distance away in the background. In Panel 2, a few moments later, a cooling mist descends from the center of the fan, spraying the young man in a mist.

ADAM [looking for the deeper meaning, to Amanda; Panel 1]: Um, sis--I'm failing to see the big hype here-- AMANDA [interjecting, Panel 1]: Lexie, turn on the fan- waterfall setting... ADAM [happy, Panel 2]: Ohhhhlly cats...now I see it! Awesome...!!

PANEL 3: We move to a shot, from the flip side of the same setting and layout as Panel 1, of Mr. de Connick turning his head around to address his sister head on with a look of curiosity on his face; the water still flowing down on his face from the fan. You can see part of the TV screen behind him in the background.

ADAM [Cont., to Amanda]: One quick question though- how the hell is this not wasting water? I thought we were still in a water crisis, along with a good chunk of the Southwest of the country. AMANDA [Off-Panel]: It is...

PANEL 4: Cut to a slight close-up of Amanda's face a couple of beats later, calmly explaining the situation to her younger brother. In the background behind her head, you can see part of the wall she's standing in front of behind her.

AMANDA [Cont.]: What you're feeling right now is a new type of water called Clagua. The whole state's tapped into it. Arizona, too...I think. AMANDA [Bubble 2]: Remember the stories on the Web about how scientists testing out ways to make waste water drinkable for people? Well...

PANEL 5: Back to a shot of Adam in the same setting as Panel 3, though with a layout that zooms in a little bit closer than the aforementioned panel. He's satisfied to a degree with the information given, save for one bit that shows up in his next question.

ADAM [fascinated, reacting to Panel 4 Bubble 1]: Interesting...what's it made of exactly?
