Golden Gate Comic Con, Chapter 7: Pages 1-2

PAGE 1

INT. TREJOS TACOS POP-UP, GOOGLE ARENA LOBBY- Where We Last Left Things Off...

PANEL 1: We start on a shot of Laura and the Cam Man drone standing in the same setting with the same panel layout as Panel 4 of the previous chapter's last page. She looks on with a great deal of disbelief in regards to the response she got at the end of Chapter 6.

ADAM [Off-Panel]: No. Just...no! LAURA [disbelieving annoyance, to Adam]: But you don't know what I'm going to tell you. How can--? ADAM [Off-Panel, Bubble 2]: Oh, I know exactly what you want out of me.

PANEL 2-3: A two-part set of panels that moves back to Adam in the same setting as the last panel of the previous page; the layout a little wider to show the young man raising the burrito in preparation for another bite come Panel 2. Then, in Panel 3, we see the burrito dropped back on the plate (with now a little over 1/2 of it left) as he speaks with a full mouth.

ADAM [Cont., to Laura; Panel 2]: I know about the blog post, this weird obsession everyone has over Flight 2422. All you see in me is a juicy story and an even juicier jump up the career ladder. ADAM [through stuffed mouth, Panel 3]: And I'm saying right now, with every fiber of my being--I don't wanna be your puppet! LAURA [Off-Panel, Panel 3]: You got me all wrong, dudiv...

PANEL 4: Action shot of the intrepid reporter Ms. Chen taking a few steps toward the young man to further plead her case to him. At the same time, you can see her right hand lifted up to signal her mechanical compatriot to follow her.

LAURA [Cont., defensive]: My only desire here is to tell your story to an eager, intrigued- no malice, no exploitation. I've got a decent chunk of a story on you, but I want to give you a chance to shine a little light on one of the greatest mysteries this country's seen since MH370 or those cats in Sacramento that performed the opening number to Sweeney Todd.

PANEL 5: Cut to a shot of Adam in the same setting and layout as Panel 3. With the burrito gripped in his left hand, he takes the paper plate in his right and tosses it into a garbage can placed behind him to the right.

ADAM [exasperated]: I don't--I don't doubt that your intentions are good here. I just...I just don't want to put my sister through whatever qualifies as being famous today. All I want now is to enjoy the Con in peace. Which means-- LAURA [interjecting, Off-Panel]: Just listen, please.

PANEL 6: Same setting/layout as the previous panel. A few beats later, he takes another bite of the burrito and starts to turn his body to the right of the panel view as if walking away from the reporter and her camera drone. You can see the bag of swag now firmly gripped in his right hand at this moment in time.

AMANDA [caption, to Adam]: "So what happened after that?"

PANEL 1-2: Action shot, taken in complete silence in both panels of the two of them continuing the conversation. In Panel 2, moments later, we see Adam starting to walk off to the right of the panel view, seemingly trying to end the conversation right then and there. In the same panel, you can see Laura in chase with the Cam Man behind her.

ADAM [caption, to Amanda; Panel 1]: "She spent 15 minutes trying every tactic I observed from some of the regular News people I worked with to get me to agree to the interview. She also talked about asking you at work whether you'd be okay for me to do the interview...took every bit in me not to scream, 'LEAVE ME ALONE!,' at her." AMANDA [caption 2, to Amanda; Panel 1]: "You still say no?" ADAM [caption 3; Panel 1]: "Of course I did! You kidding me?" ADAM [Cont. caption, Panel 2]: "I just got here, I don't feel like putting my life on full display for a bunch of strangers. Not till I at least know what it'll look like, and what I plan to do with it."

INT. LIVING ROOM, AMANDA'S HOUSE- Night

PANEL 3: Cut to a shot of Adam, dressed in an old T-shirt that belonged to Erin and a pair of shorts that belong to him. You can see the NV suit placed on the couch to the side of him as he speaks; a bucket of popcorn lying on the coffee table that is visible here in the bottom center of the panel view.

ADAM [Cont., adding on to his thought]: Especially, like I said, if it may screw with you and your daughter's family.

PANEL 4: Action shot of Ms. de Connick-Walsh heading over in the direction of the couch, holding her San Jose Sharks-mugged drink in her right hand. She laughs nonchalantly at the assumption given by her brother in the previous panel, tinged with a bit of appreciation at the thought of it.

AMANDA: Thanks for the consideration, bro, but--me and E'll be fine if you do go through with it. Did this Laura girl give you her work number?

PANEL 5: Back to Adam in the same setting as Panel 3, though with a layout that is more focused on the young man's face a second later. He nods and looks over in his sister's direction with a touch of surprise, peaking in at what he thinks is the subtext behind the statement.

ADAM: Yeah...You think I should do this interview?

PANEL 6: Back to Amanda a few moments later, taking a seat down on the side of the couch looking over in her brother's direction; her mug raised up slightly toward her lips to take a sip after she finishes her thought.

AMANDA [shaking her head]: Not my call to make. I'm just saying that there's a way to use this to help situate yourself here in 2038. Given the amount of true life news stories that have become movies since you got...it might not be a bad idea to try to capitalize it- make some money. ADAM [Off-Panel]: Yeah, about that...
